Is EDG really that good?

So far we haven't seen much from EDG. They've only played against very easy (BKT), easy (H2K) and very hard (SKT) so far in worlds. They've never played against a team with a reasonable skill level, so I wonder how they'd do against them. Also, they're only the second team from China, losing against LGD who failed miserably in week 1. What guarantee is there that it won't happen to EDG?

EDGs lack of normal difficulty opponents gives them both an advantage and a drawback. Other teams haven't seen them play against a close opponent, but on the other hand, EDG hasn't had expecience playing tough opponents that are not SKT lvl. Maybe they'll play a bit too carefully if they're used to the SKT games, maybe they won't respect the other teams enough.

Anyways, I'm wondering who will win between FNC and EDG, what do you think?

I really hope Fnatic will come out ahead, and without Koro1 EDG really has some problems on the upper side of the map - so they´re much more beatable than they have been during MSI. But if by any chance EDG bring back Koro during the week off they´d be my favourite to win the whole tournament yet again.

Thing is, EDG is nasty. When they saw that they had their hands on the quarter final spot pretty much guaranteed (BKT is a wildcard team{Ok so Pain sort of showed up, I guess you could say that ?} and H2k was having some problems and made it in because a excellent spring split, summer they were only so and so) they pretty much decided not to break a sweat. They did something similar in the MSI this year as well, not bothering too much about the round robin, then eliminating everyone when they needed 2. I mean, they haven't played Koro in their line up in worlds yet, and he is their starting top laner, not Amazing J. So yeah, while Fnatic could stomp them, I think that EDG is going to beat them back

EDG didnt show that much of their strategy but the had some problems against the weak teams too.

I think fnc didnt show that much of their knowledge of the current meta too.

Very hard to predict who will win but i trust FNC

Heres my view on it:

Team synergy/shotcalling: Fnatic wins this because they are all sepaking one language

Individual mechanics: EDG has a mechanically better top laner and jungler than fnatic although mid/bot could be argued for both sides. Huni has been super inconsistant and i expect EDG to take advantage

Diversity: I'd say each team has similarly deep champ pools.

All in all, if fnatic can out rotate/team them to death and avoid EDG early aggression, they can win. If fnatic goes soloqueue again or doesnt perform nearly perfectly EDG will win.

65% EDG 35% Fnatic win imo

On paper, EDG would be even better than SKT, so yes, they are really that good Best jungler in the world, one of the few mid laners that has costantly given troubles to the best mid laner in the world and probably top 2-3 mid in the world, 2nd best ADC in the World and the best remaining in the tournament, competent top and support They won MSI edging out fair and square SKT, although after a tough battle

As it turned out, they are really in a moment of relative slump dating back to the LPL playoffs when they incredibly lost vs LGD and iG and they haven't fully recovered yet, imho, as they have look clearly inferior to their max potential I have always considered them the true 1st seed from China, as LGD got the 1st seed upon a week of total slump by EDG more than anything else after a basically flawless season, so I don't think they can be compared in any way to LGD

Still, it all depends on what version of EDG will show up. If EDG is at their best, they win after a competitive series, if EDG is still kinda of shaky Fnatic has rather good chance to come out at the top in what will be a 50/50 series

All other Chinese teams failed which shows the region is struggling to adapt to the new meta. SKT also showed what to do to beat EDG.

EDG are strong but I think Fnatic can win.

EDG are a fantastic team for sure, but they rely on early roams to gain leads. If they don't get these leads, they force fights. We've seen them appear shaky in the week 2 of groups, and were exposed during their slump in the regular season of the LPL and in the finals against LGD. There is definately a glimmer of hope for Fnatic.

EDG, and China as a whole, is suffering from a team meta. Helping teammates is important right now (unlike in assassin metas), so having halves of your team on different languages (Korea/China) will kill you.
