Does the LCS has a small pool of champions?

Is it just me or does the LCS has a rather small pool of champions that see play?

The jungle is mostly elise and gragas with a little Nidalee and Rekkers. Mid is victor vs orianna most games and if not those two, it's Varus and Azir. Sivir and Kalista are pick/ban so Vayne and corki (lucian in EULCS) usually gets through as the other two are banned. Naut, Rumble and Maokai seem really common top.

I partly admire all the diehards who follow it because it's really hard to keep my interest as a casual follower when it's pretty much the same champs all the time. It seems like when someone new like Soraka or Draven get picked the very next game they are banned.

No not really.

It is more complicated then it looks.

First you have to look at how many champions can the player play at the top lvl.

Then you have to look at what champions work for your strategy you are going to run.

lastly you have to look at what is strong right now in the current meta.(as you may be expected to be able to play or play against these champions.)

Some teams put the meta first but that is not something the best teams do as they are innovators not copy cats.

Anyway the champions are not as important then as they way they are played is the important part.

Yes it does

I like how Dota does it. Where champs from last game can't be played in best of 5.

well, there are players that have huge Champion-pools, but they are rather exceptions. most really seem to only care about a small pool of "meta-champs"...i´m pretty glad C9 showed that this is not a strength but an actual weakness that can be abused by players that can player a lot more diverse Champion-pool and have access to more strategies...it´s also not really surprising that the LPL had been won by the midlaner with the most diverse picks in the season (~16unique champs). So well, maybe other teams/players will follow and actually try to be able to play more different Champs on a god enough lvl in the future. The diehard followers though follow it mostly because of the makro/strategic aspects i´d guess, not so much for the actual champions.

The things is that there will always be the best champions and honestly right now the lcs has a lot more diversity than it has had it a while. I think that we should be glad.
