Why Are Koreans Better Than Everyone At Video Games?

Every year its just Koreans over and over winning the worlds championship. Why are they so good compared to EU/China/NA? I take my games seriously, and I always play games in my spare time yet I am nowhere near as good as a Korean player.

Competitive video game playing has been more of a social norm for much longer than in any other country, everywhere else still views playing video games as something unimpressive and playing a lot of them is seen as a negative in society's eyes. Developing skill and a video game culture in a much more suitable environment probably has a lot of influence in why Korea is so much better than everyone else.

I read a article that said the reason they are better is they keep the language, culture, customs and all that nearly the same. For example, in league the Korean teams do not grab people from NA, or EU.

It's a cultural thing. Gaming is widely accepted in Korea. There are internet cafes everywhere, people there can dedicate so much time to gaming and not suffer too much.

Being professional in video games in Korea would be equivalent to being a professional athlete in the Americas. Yes, there are people in other countries who dedicate so much time to games, but there are more outside influences that pressure them away from video games compared to Korea.

Their national sport is StarCraft II, a video game for pete's sake.
