Mark Cuban wants to own an eSports team and League of Legends

wonder how that would play out.

Like if Cuban built a superstar league team and other millionaires did the same, how big could eSports (League of Legends or otherwise) really become?

eSports is already a huge venture but the last thing you want is it being overtaken by corporate monstrosities, not saying cuban is corporate but yeh, lets not repeat mistakes of previous ''sports''.

I read about that however Mark Cuban actually knows how to run and manage the team. He does a fantastic job with the Dallas Mavericks every year

Well it doesn't matter if Rick Fox can run a team because stupid gaming visa aren't allowing 3 people on the team to play. That isn't Rick Fox's fault.

To be fair, I think it's the team's responsibility to get valid athletic visas for their players.

Granted Mark Cuban has DoubleLift on his friend list, he loves league he plays it too and i mean he is a successful business man so who knows maybe he will buy TIP they were selling at the end of last season , I believe Mark Cuban could actually do a successful esports team franchise He probably will anyways, He actually plays league and enjoys it so i know he will do fine if he likes it he will make it work !!

With big sponsors already involved, a dedicated distribution platform, a large viewership, and an international platform there really isn't a cap to the growth of competitive league as long as it's managed well. Having people like Mark Cuban that have experience with the structure of competitive entertainment--like Mark Cuban himself--would greatly benefit that growth. If I were Riot, I would happily invite him to sit down with my eSports team and talk about the future of competitive League. Guys like him could make it explode and ensure it heads in the right direction.

Probably not much bigger than it is now considering only people that play LoL actually give a crap about its esports scene. This isn't like football or baseball. I like esports a lot, but one issue it has is its audience is limited to people that actually play the game.

The EU play off finals between Origin and FNC actually had more audience than the NBA finals and the NHL play offs.

to be honest it can and will get bigger, it is the fastest growing sport of our generation and is probably the next ''new'' big sport.

i know plenty of people that watch but don't play thats like saying if you don't play football or baseball your not interested in it which is just not the case, not by a long shot, as long as colleges and universities (and right now schools too) have clubs/teams and have supported leagues it will continue to grow and make people interested, the scene is already taken seriously by all credible sources.

disclaimer; the term ''sport'' is used losely and refers to eSports, in no way am i saying its a sport on the level of physical sports fitness levels.

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I just think the learning curve for learning LoL, as a spectator only, is more significant than being a spectator for baseball, football, etc. With more major outlets featuring esports more people will get into it I'm sure, but I do feel, especially with so many different games out there being different from each other, that the potential audience will be hindered a bit to mostly people that actually play the game.

Having said that, I am sure LoL on ESPN right now would quadruple the ratings they're getting form woman's college softball.

kinda difficult to say...i mean e.g. football is an immense complex sport - but i for one only watch the Superbowl (it´s just really not a vastly accessable sport to watch in the Eu without payTV) and usually i (fully) can make sense of what´s happening after the 1st-2nd quarter. And even then, i know lots of people that watch sports and have no actual clue how the game is played in detail (e.g. lots of people can hardly explain icing in ice-hockey, but still enjoy the game for it´s atmosphere and the more understandable traits). A lot of it also has to do with the casters i guess, i think e.g. dota has a pretty successfull channel for viewers not familiar with the game at their bigger events, so it´s easier to understand what´s going on.
