Thoughts so far NA 2017 Summer Split ( only 5 teams so far sorry)

I Know week 2 isn't over yet but I was pretty bored so I did this hoping to start a discussion and to see what everyone thinks about certain teams, players etc.

  • Going to be talking about team by team and my views on them( not great detail but just enough to not put anyone to sleep)

DIG - Well I said DIG might be that 6th place team in my before the split standings and well, I gotta eat some crow, Dignitas are playing great so far but let's not forget Dignitas' past of starting off hot and slowing down near the end of the split, however last split Dig started off slower than molasses and really picked up steam to finish the split. However, is this really a true contender or just another team Dignitas that starts off hot but fades away as the weeks go on? For example - 2013 Spring Split started 11-3 ended 6-8 in the second half 2013 Summer Split started 7-7 ended 6-8 in the second half 2014 Spring Split started 7-7 ended 6-8 in the second half 2014 Summer Split started 9-5 ended 4-10 in the second half 2015 Spring Split started 3-6 ended 3-6 in the second half 2015 Summer Split started 7-2 ended 3-6 in the second half 2016 Spring Split started 3-6 ended 1-8 in the second half 2016 Summer Split started 4-5 ended 4-5 in the second half 2017 Spring Split started 3-6 ended 6-3 in the second half
In short Dig only had 1 split out of 9 total so far that they had a better second half oppose to the first half/start of the split.
54-47 first half - 39-62 in second half total 2013-2017/Spring DIG are 3-0 right now.............

IMT - Gotten much better since trading Dardoch for Xmithie and in return Xmithie has given clear cut calls that is going under the radar as for as MVP consideration. The Owner or GM or whoever talked about building for the future but he never said "when" it would happen, well this seems to be the time for Immortals to actually have a young, talented team that can be built up. NO superstars(Huni/Reignover) and no talented but also rage style player(Dardoch) just 5 players or "cast outs" from once previous teams.
Flame has bounced around team to team his whole career and even when he was at the top of his peak in Korea/China he was benched just as much for a number of reasons, toxic, communication and sometimes pretty bad games. Pobleter hasn't ever seemed to actually reach his stardom but with the and ol' friend and once CLG member(X-Mithie) he can maybe achieve a large amount of stardom that he once had during the 2015 Summer Split. Who can forget Olleh! Olleh Olleh! and Cody Sun- Who in my opinion reminds me of Wildturtle in his hay-day, both players are developing into a real threat and in due time could be a force to not overshadow or to be taken lightly.
We all know the classic monster movies in the past; The Wolfman, Dracula etc and we know what could be with Immortals once they start to click; They're ALIVE!

TL - Not going to go into great detail for Team Liquid because I'v already talked and posted a decent amount about this team in the past within the last week or so. I will say tho this team has talent( NOT FAKER level so please anyone standing up with a pitch-fork sit back down, delete your hate comments) like I said this team does have talent; Lourlo is decent - Very rarely do I see him really just get dominated in lane or in game, Matt seems like he's actually not dying constantly and Piglet has been doing his best to carry. So whats up with Team Liquid- Why can't they win games ? Do they play too cautious near the mid/late game ? - In my opinion YES- but they're looking better to say the least. In short everyone has their own problems that like before I'v discussed numerous times in the past, but in short TL F TL in each game. Not going to get into detail or every game but during Team Liquid vs NV Game 1 - Around 31-35mins is when I felt Team Liquid once again shot themselves in the foot yet again! TL saw the Elise in the river near Baron, while the rest of NV are in the midlane behind them, what did they do? - TL went in between the Elise and the rest of NV instead of just walking up mid near their base instead, Lourlo was he out of position and not near the team - Kinda, but he actually took the route that was actually smart instead of getting sandwiched in that really turned the game around at that point. The NV's Talihya was also near TL's top so it went like this; Run past and between the Elise and NV(ADC/Sup/Top) while moving through the jungle near the Taliyha. Why? Again, why not just walk up mid instead?

NV - Apollo playing aggressive, Lira isn't 1v9 every game, Seraph isn't getting his head smashed in at top, NV are winning with the leads that they get in games unlike from previous years, WHAT HAPPENED TO NV ! Seriously NV was building a reputation of being that team that A. Would play constant 3rd games in best of and B. Getting leads and fumbling near the mid/late game. It's a nice paste seeing a team that can not only get early leads but to also win from it too. Apollo was never an aggressive player but one that would hide under tower all game but he's flashing in and getting kills, when I saw he flashed and killed Piglet near blue buff I was like " Who is this" I'v seen like 5 years worth of Apollo games and until this split he was super passive, consistent but passive. He's always been a good farmer but so far his getting around 377 cs per game which is MVP level as far as CS goes. He's always had great cs numbers considering up until this split he would have around 307.7 cs per game but his CSPM wasn't ever really that high always around that 8.4-8.6 cs per min in his career. He's averaging higher in CS per game than Wildturtle 301.6 and Sneaky 301.8 both stats BEFORE this split; so the stats aren't factored in( I will upgrade the all time player stats at the end of the split like I always do) One thing why Apollo's cs are high is because of how many Overtime or OT games he's already played in his career{ OT = 40+mins} To give an example - remember OT means 40+ mins Sneaky has played in 228 games(68,822 cs) before this split and the same with Turtle with 241 games(72,700 cs)
with Sneaky having played around 66 OT games, while Turtle having 69 OT games himself; but like I said Apollo isn't a person with short games in his career either(169 games), having 72 less games than Turtle and 59 than Sneaky - Apollo has played around 59 OT games in 169 regular season splits only - No playoffs, no promotional, relegation etc only regular split games are being counted here.
So when casters, fans etc say NV will be a faster team - remember who's on the team and their history. Sure they might be a faster team as far as objectives go but not game length.

CLG - Not the CLG from 2016 Spring that were methodical and smart, instead it's a mix of that CLG and the previous split CLG; that CLG from 2017 Spring that was like #1 in Kills but also #1 in deaths too and below average objective control to boot.
2017 Spring CLG 2.1 Dragons per game, 0.84 Barons, 14.5 Kills and 16.5 Deaths 2017 Summ CLG 2.8 Dragons per game, 1.0 Barons, 15.2 Kills and 10.8 Deaths What's impressive so far is right now CLG are #1 in game time just rounding at 40 mins per game and already having played in 4 OT games, but not losing an considerable amount of towers(4.2 which is 2nd best) only behind Echo Fox. I do think the Dragons per game will be lowered as the weeks go on and I'd say an average of 2.3 at the end of the split instead of 2.8 and same with the Barons to end around 0.91 per game. This team are still sloppy and need to work a few things out but so far they're looking decent and looking to possibly improve. Nothing against Xmithie and I'm sure his stats and team success can speak for itself but CLG needed an aggressive player in the jungle position, mainly because the lanes on CLG aren't top tier but instead team coordination and bond is what makes this team click in my opinion. With Dardoch it gives Stixxay the room to not just hide behind Darshan and Aphromoo like he's done for the bulk of his career.
( please don't give me that " Oh Stixxay rely on everyone to protect him and his not good and the team has to tank and peel for him" What game have you been watching if that is your argument about Stixxay ? ADC hiding behind his teammates - I'm shocked! Tomorrow vs TSM should be a true test to see where CLG truly are this split.

5 Down and 5 to go- hopefully tomorrow before the games start.

  • Thank you and hopefully at least someone enjoys this as it takes time and effort in doing this stuff from time to time.
