Has Riven been used in professional play this year?

She was hardly a pick last year. I'd like to see her in professional play. Can anybody point me to her being used this season in LCS?

poppy is strong,. she is banned or picked based on comps/ players pool/ what side of map...

but mao is always picked...

believe it or not riven is actually kinda shit for proplay , hasnt been a common pick for a couple seasons , the boards will tell you otherwise but notice you never see her in proplay , you see people with loads of reliability and often simply mechanics like moakoa and vlad .

also you will notice champs in pro play are utility based champs for the most part... being able to do alot of things in ones kit...

riven is damage all damage and nothing but damage... but other champs like a mao who can be engage, tank, disengage, cc, damage. a strong safe laner. a late game scaling . so on and so on...

look at the adcs picked so far

ashe and varus

utility , cc, etc ... they offer more then damage

But Riven was used in Season 4 and Season 5 :c she was only picked like 2 times in Season 6 tho and not once so far this season.

and even in season 5 she was at best a counter pick to a certain lane

the only way you see her picked more often is the jungler meta goes to tanky utility junglers like of days pass... but since its more early game pressure junglers top lane picks seem to be more so the tank of the team comps now... and having a support as the only tank on a team isnt ideal due to lack of experience /levels in game and gold income ... because you cant easily get the big tank items on a support income

The time between patches in this game is just too short for pro play to really see all the good strategies fleshed out. Teams find something that works and latch onto it without even trying out different strategies.

There could be a very legit team comp that Riven works in but literally no one even bothers trying her because they don't want to waste time practicing a strat that might not pan out when they could be practicing a strat that they know has some merit to it.

in a sense you are correct but when you see the type of champs picked and played in a pro setting ... its clear why they are picked and why. why pick riven top when so many other top laners just do what she does better and the current strong/meta top laners just are better team fight , all around champs and makes rivens life hell?

like fiora is a better 1 vs 1 , duelist and split pusher... poppy is better at tanking, cc, etc and don't lose vs riven mao is similar to poppy and so on... riven vs a coordinated team would get shit on with peel, cc etc.

just there is no upside to pick her in competitive play

Riven isn't a good pick in LCS, she is not very safe and lacks a lot of team utility. She also doesn't bring anything special, while being easily shut down by crowd control. She will only be seen in LCS if it is a counterpick where she can assure safety from the enemy top laner and jungler. And even then there are just better picks.

lol i had a shyvanna top lane match up the other night ... made me think of you... and made me laugh when she tried to pressure and out trade me as maokai.... she got tired of getting no where with it and left lane all together

That aside, trying to get back into work, League and writing. So it is what it is. I will probably be lost. I didn't even notice the Shyvana nerf until I was reading the boards.

No, you do not want to see Riven in proplay, you know what happens to champs that show up there that riot doesn't show favoritism to ( LeeSin too popular to be nerfed, riot actually said that) and you don't want that happening to riven do you?

yet lee is still picked in pro play...

he was balanced of late ( nerfed ) due to the jungle changes that gave him lvl 3 on krugs and cheese ganks... and they nerfed the ult damage on rank 2 and 3 of his ult...

that was more so for the PVP then so pro play...

oh as of last weekend he was 1-10 in LCK

I don't mind nerfs as long as they are fair :) better than my champ being permabanned.
