What happened to backdoors?

Season 4 had a multitude of backdoors such as the famous 8/23/14 (I might be a day off) where there were 3 backdoors in the NA competitive scene alone with 2 happening in the DIG vs TSM set (I personally watched 2 of them that day, the Amazing one and the one by LOD in the CS). Then there were ones that failed like the FNC vs OMG (I watched that one live too) which will be forever ingrained into our minds.

Base races was what I enjoyed most about competitive LoL scene at that is just no more. (I can't think of one notable backdoor this year outside of the UOL vs FNC and that was a stopped backdoor, or just not a backdoor at all)

I guess teams have just gotten so good at warding or teams just stopped taking risks.

I don't know if its had anything to do with the dragon changes, meta, or if they buffed the base armour of the Nexus by 1 after the FNC insident.

I just wish Rito supports risk taking more in the future because that's what makes competitive league most entertaining for me.

I also wish for them to support the Tankplank Donger comp that SKT T1 ran last year with the tankplank getting a penta.

That would be nice too.

How to change this?

Well many people want inhib towers to be buffed along with the Nexus turrets, but buffing Nexus turrets would completely stop backdoors so I propose buffing Inhib turrets but not Nexus, because if you have already have gotten to the point where your nexus turrets are left then you should be punished for it.

And buffing Tankplank and Donger xD

it's the laser towers, turns out they are actually good at stopping back doors, that's why Riot is nerfing them now.

The enhanced recall from new baron makes backdoors MUCH harder to pull off, since people can recall so much faster.

While I agree that I do miss seeing the occasional base race, the fact that you noted that there were once three in a single day of LCS matches perfectly illustrates why Riot felt the need to nerf the strat in the first place (by changing turret damage/armor, adding lasers, etc). I'm guessing that they wanted to lower the number of base races because, while it does get a lot of hype and cheering, it's not really a good gameplay mechanic. If the entirety, or even the majority, of LCS matches were decided by the strategy devolving into, "Each team pick a lane, push, and whoever pushes faster wins", then those games are no longer battles and therefore less dependent on team fighting, team comp, and individual skill/outplay. It stops being a 5v5 fight and turns into two groups of 5vTurrets, which isn't fun to play or watch over a majority of games, IMO.

It's unfortunate that the strategy has entirely fallen out of favor, sort of like split pushing, but I'm not sure what could be done to buff backdoors that wouldn't bring them back to the point of silliness. Just my two cents, though. :)
