I suspect American work ethic just isn't up to par with korea. Not NA bashing, it's just that Koreans are used to like 12-14 hour school days: 7:00-3 go to school 4-7 go to cram school 7-10 homework

I wouldn't be surprised in the least if they could stand 16 hour practice sessions 6 days a week, with 8 hours on sunday.

Week 1 is historically a fluke with the Worlds formula from S4 onwards. You don't see the true strength of teams in Week 1, with all the one-two trick pony cheese strategies, the "rustiness" of the teams that have to find coheesion, the measurements of what are the power picks in the reality rather than in pre-Worlds analysis theory, the emotion factor for playing on stage, the meta match-up between the various regions, etc...the only thing it is good for is for the point you carry over for the entirety of the group stage standings

It is in Week 2 that you see the real strength of the team when most of these factors are discounted and basically everyone play at his best basically, which cause some hyped overrated team to fall down, and this carry till the various non KR teams get caught in the losing "catch the Koreans" game that make them perform generally bad barring few exceptions

C9 get through because was the only half-decent NA team in week 2 on behalf of their good general game macro and playmaking - which they showed also versus SSG where they merely lack a ton of times mechanics in the direct compariosn except partially for game 3 where they were clearly beaten even in this aspect but not too bad if compared to what usually happens to Western team vs Koreans, mechanics in which C9 was one of the worst team overall in Worlds -
