Boring Worlds.

undEAdbUs··5 votes·1,304 views

Will it end? When I was watching Royals vs Edward - there was a passion, risk, cries and tears. When I'm watching Whites games it's totally boring, and I turn off stream after they get 5k gold advantage, because result is predictable (oh yes!). Will we have same boring finals like in previous season? One side games with snowballing teams, without ways to answer back. Jayce in every game because there is no other way to beat Yasuo or long range OPs like Syndra and Ziggs. Pls give back fun to pro-games.

Because it is your opinion that these matches are boring, it is thus the majorities opinion.

Riiiiight.

Yeah, it's only mine opinion. But this is third Worlds that I'm watching. And I'm watching usual sports, so I can compare some things. Btw your opinion is not a majorities opinion too.

You must be used to watching NA/EU games when throws happen often.

Korean teams hardly ever do that once they have a lead but apparently being so good at the game, makes it "boring" (to some).

It's not about good games. It's about predictable games. When one team winning in first 10 mins, and this team is White - nah, you already know how this game will end. No intrigue -> no fun.

in contrast, i'd say it's amazing because unlike NA/EU games where I have to wait 50 minutes for a result that I already know KR akes it 25-30 mins tops. No fucking around.

OMG vs FNC was fun to watch sorta, but in reality seeing the teams both make such TERRIBLE errors for a full hour + was not entertaining until they actually back and forth towards the very end.

I'd rather see a battle between two samurais ended in 5 minutes than a battle between two drunken frat boys that lasts 3 hours.

Ok, I'll try explain my position in your "samurais". You would like to see battle between two samurais. But what if one samurai cut a hand to another samurai right after start? And another samurai will die anyway from bleeding. Will you wait this 5 mins to wait, how many bruises will get first samurai before second die? Or just walk away and watch another samurai battle?

Yeah but you still want to see if the samurai is good enough to finish it off cleanly.

Only SSW is the team that can 100% take a lead and guaranteed win with it. SHRC/OMG/c9/TSM etc etc. will always give you a chance, which MIGHT make it more interesting if no other samurais are competent. Naturally watching a highlight reel of Lebron James dunking on the High School Varsity team will get boring, but that's up to the other teams to step up.

Keep in mind, this isn't even Koreans. Just SSW. SSB is a slow starter that managed to lose games to TSM and c9. In fact if you had switched TSM and c9 I would have given TSM a more than fair chance of beating SSB who simply haven't looked impressive. NWS have also been below par.

OMG/SHRC have been very strong, but not as flawless as SSW.

Basically, we need better samurais, not kill the strongest ones so the weak ones feel better. I want to see the TOP tier play and that's what SSW has to offer than so be it.

...

Don't watch it, then?

personally, I like watching two of the best teams in the world go at it.

The only way to make LoL popular world sport discipline is make it fun to watch. There fun possible only when results of match is unpredictable. Your logic "don't watch if you don't like it" - Riots can't accept it. Their target is to make people watch Worlds. So I'm right, and you'r not. Riots intrested in fun games not in boring. That's why they shifting meta so much, all time, every season. But it didn't help in previous season, and looks like it won't help in this one too.

The game needs more comeback mechanisms based on skill, not just "lose slower" rubberbanding mechanisms. See also: Dota.

ever played Dota yourself? If a competent team snowballs there´s waaay less you can do to stop it compared to LoL. And TI4 has been quite as onesided, if not even more so. It´s not SSWs fault they play on another level currently - it´s the fault of the other teams to not come to worlds as focused and prepared. (And worlds really has proven that it´s not the Korean Scene that is just better than everyone else and therefor made SSW that strong, but rather just the talent and dedication of this single team alone).

Only if you suck. Teams that don't suck have an easier time coming back.

Because SSW is just that good of a team. It's like SKT last year. I agree that champ diversity could be improved (though we did see SSB pull out that Varus in Game 1), but what exactly are you supposed to do to stop a team like Samsung White? Intentionally handicap them? That doesn't sound very fair.

undEAdbUs1 votes

You're absolutely right - second predictable season. What am I supposed to do? Nothing. It's Riots job. Make mechanics to stop this "snowball" train.

GameofThrawns2 votes

What mechanics? Okay, so Korea has significantly better e-sports infrastructure than the rest of the world. Why should they be handicapped instead of having the world catch up? Why SHOULDN'T a team win if they literally put all their hours except eating and sleeping into LoL?

undEAdbUs1 votes

Compare SSW semifinals and Royals, and you will understand what I meant.

GameofThrawns1 votes

Except SSB has soundly beaten SSW almost every time they've met. It's why Blue came in as Korea's first seed while White came in second. The fact that White 3-0 roflstomped Blue shocked everyone. Some even say that Blue purposely threw because they knew that overall, White was still a better team. I personally doubt it, but if you've watched OGN you'd know that that game left a lot of people scratching their heads.

The reason why SHRC and OMG was so exciting was simply due to how many mistakes both teams were making. OMG should become a baseball pitcher seeing how hard they threw Game 3. And Game 5 was a complete Royal stomp. It's like they have this pact where they try to be all strategic and play the vision game when against non-Chinese teams, but the moment it becomes China vs China, both teams go "Fuck vision, fuck objectives, fuck logic, BLOOD SHALL BE SPILLED." Which I admit is very entertaining to watch, but that's really just China being China, a region where pros use Flash on a whim and rack up KDAs that would make Diamonds smurfing in Bronze jealous.

To be honest, even though I REALLY wanted OMG to get into Finals and perhaps even win (yeah...no), I'm pretty satisfied with this SSW vs SHRC matchup. cola seems a bit weak compared to Looper, but besides that, I think they mirror each other pretty well. InSec and DanDy are both hall-of-fame Korean junglers who are pretty aggressive. corn and Pawn are the unsung mid lane heroes of their teams. Uzi and Imp are both very good ADCs and both have a clear streak of arrogance, while their supports Zero and Mata seem to be the more quiet, big brother types who sigh and save their ADC's ass whenever Uzi/Imp derps.

So tell me, what can Riot do to weaken Korea's dominance besides telling other regions to step it up?

Cool. When I was watching Royals vs Edward - there was so many mistakes, horrible rotations, and sub-par playmaking.

Don't you wish there was a team that can actually play at White's level? That would be awesome.

undEAdbUs2 votes

For perfect plays and perfect rotations, your enemy must do horrible mistakes. Or he won't let you play perfect. Both teams can't play without mistakes. Sure I wish - my topic is about that. Boring. Predictable.
