World Hype (or lack thereof)

Where is all the hype for Worlds this year? I mean, if I wasn't active on social media (most just twitter) and followed E-Sports fairly closely, I'm not sure I would know it was Worlds week (starts Thursday).

We've gotten a "teaser video" for a song, the song itself, and a teaser video about players talking so far.

There seems to be no excitement building, no countdown to worlds, no hype at all, as if we are less running into the event and time, and more falling into it. Season 3 hype was pretty big with behind the scenes stuff, upcoming this and that, and people seemed genuinely excited.

Last year we had pieces on the areas, the different locations, players talking more extensively, all of that.

This year we have...not much. No one on the boards really talking about it, not even much talk about it on social media to be honest, and it just feels like it is another month away, not less than a week away.

What is going on?

I'm quite hyped up personally, but I've noticed the same. Nothing interesting so far and worlds are starting in 4 days - I even miss the EU vs NA threads. This years song is not that great, but I guess that happens when you set up the bar too high ^^ I like the Pick'em challenge a lot, though.

I think the main problem is the introduction of boards. They just work so differently than the old forums. I think it's quite near impossible of making a viable discussion in this format of conversation, where everyone can participate. Two long reply lists between 2/3 players and countless single replies which no one reads.

I guess that's what is wrong with boards hype. In the EU is even worse, since many players alienated from the reddit boards idea, and the most of the people that stayed are the high moral dudes, the ones that share news, and the ones that make memes. I have barely seen any kind of discussion there.

On the RIOT end, though, I don't have a clue why is everything so quiet. I was much excited about all the kind of world teasers that were going to show up eventually, and in the end nothing really happened in this esports dry month. The Top 20 players is more annoying than hyping, because of the 2 players per day.

i mean SKT is most likley going to win. Not much hype when you know asians win every time.

TBH, I sort of feel like the game is declining and E-$ports is the major cause.

Also, I heard something about a music video for this season? Where is that at?

NA not done well after spring split.

That doesn't mean no hype is around. China is hyped to win, Better the Korea always winning. And AHQ/Flash wolves are there to watch.

The most hype be around Fnatic the western hope right now.

Noone is expecting CLG to do anything. If they do well that be fun even if it ugg CLG.

Well if you noticed the top 20 worlds players countdown that started awhile ago... Also if you look on the esports section there is an entire site dedicated to worlds.

IDK I am hyped for it. I never watch those annoying trailers or whatever. WHO CARES ABOUT THAT! Although these faux player ratings are much worse. I just want to watch the games!

I am hyped, and i believe Brazil was never more hyped than now for a worlds.

But i see what you mean, Riot work in building it was better in the past years. I still believe we will get a video eventually, and maybe a clip for the song.

I also have high hopes for live presentations in either opening or in the final, before the matches.

I am hyped for days 1 and 2 for sure. Less after that... the time difference to the West Coast is absolutely brutal. I know I could watch the VODs after the fact. And maybe I will but it's kind of a downer.

I'm not much of an esports fan, so I've never really gotten hyped for a match. I've noticed a severe lack in knowledge and hype myself as well. I literally had to google when Worlds was starting, and was surprised it was happening in a few weeks (a few weeks ago,) because I had NO IDEA.

Same thing happened with Pool Party. Literally no one knew wtf was going on, I had to explain it to 60+ friends on my friends list.

And where is the fancy hype video?!?! I know this is a small thing but for nearly every other major e-sports there is a dramatic video with cool music playing showing clips of the top teams' games. I loved those, and I am kinda made at Riot for not doing one, I may be the only one bothered by this however.
