is there any reason why I keep seeing Thresh and Fiora in the same matchup same team every time? Is there some synergy?

Thresh has pretty decent Synergy with Melee carries in general since he provides lock down, a gap closer, and zone control with his ult, basically covers a lot of their weaknesses.

That might not be the reason you're seeing it though since those champions are both strong in their own rite, but there is synergy.

Fiora is a melee carry, so it's the same concept as with Rengar, you don't need to necessarily play them as a duo bot, but they can be incredibly effective when paired up on the same team.

So Fiora and Thresh seem to be a lot of what is being picked together. So your saying, does thresh/fiora benefit with each other being close in a team fight or how does it work?

Basically Thresh provides the CC and Fiora brings the damage, anything that gets hooked doesn't have very good odds of survival, Thresh also provides a hard escape, something that Melee carries usually lack, but which benefits them quite a bit, the lantern can also be used to engage as a gap closer.
