Too much of the same champs

Hi Riot, I've been watching NA LCS all of this year and something's been bugging me throughout the year:

It's always the same champs being played. :/ (Not literally the same 100% of the time) I find myself skipping the video altogether when the team comps are: Gnar, Evelynn, Viktor, Sivir, Alistar vs Rumble, Rek'Sai, Corki, Kalista, Thresh (Ok, so I'm not good at understanding/guessing team compositions)

I mean, nowadays, you can't see a game without a Kalista, Sivir, Corki and/or Kog'Maw. (Like, legit, I'm sure there's a game with all 4 of them) When Ashe got reworked, she saw a bit of play, there were maybe 1 or 2 Gangplanks after the rework (I think it was overseas, tho). My point is, I feel like there is a lack of variety when it comes to League as an entertainment medium. Sure, it's awesome when someone pulls off a 5-man Gnar ultimate... but you see those almost every game in the Summer finals. I feel like this could be helped with some more bans? I see those flying around on the boards and that could lead to more interesting team comps. Think something can be done about that? I want to see more diversity in LCS! (TSM!)

1: Gangplank was seen a lot in the Challenger Series. 2: Corki mid is exceedingly rare. 3: I agree as whole. Most players have a small, comfortable pool of champions, and don't stray much from that. Even with the recent spikes of Elise and Eve, I'm already finding myself bored with them. It might be nice if people wouldn't just pick the same thing over and over. Most people agree, that's why picks like Yasuo and Zed get cheered for.

The reason why certain champions are played so often in the LCS is because they exceed and are strong in the current meta. Usually, playing off-meta picks can put you at a slight disadvantage. You can't just go ham and play whatever you want. The reason why so many team comps are used over and over is because they work and have shown the most success. I remember back in like season 3 or 4, you used to see Kha'zix and Elise all the time, because the meta fit around them and they were extremely strong.

Learning a character at a professional takes something like 500 games with it. I know that in solo Q you can just play in ranked as soon as it is released (trollolol) but pro teams would get crushed if they did that.

So a player like ZionSpartan is going to pick up a couple of characters per split maybe. He starts with Rumble Gnar Hecarim , and as the split goes on he swaps over to like Ekko Fizz Sion . The specific champions I listed are random examples, but what I'm getting at is that every player has their own champion pool with some core ones and then some pocket picks.

They also scrim each other within a region so it's natural for all the top laners to see their peers doing well on it and try it too. If you look at another region, you'll find some refreshing pockets. The core ones of each split (possibly patch) don't rotate too often. Stuff like Maokai Viktor is a staple for their lane, but I saw Uzi from OMG owning on Caitlyn just the other day.

I think 1 ban for each person might be a better approach as well, but I can see why it might create a tough scenario for the players because it takes so long to master the champions.

People keep saying that there were over 40 champs played. The difference is, many of those champs were picked once while a handful other are constantly being picked

The same champs get played because that's the thing that the pros want to use.

Also every time riot reworks a champ for LCS viability, that champ is never seen in LCS (soraka).

We need more bans to push the pros out of their comfort zone. Pros should have a huge champ pool and if they don't they get cut.

Oh it could probably be better, but it's pretty diverse as is. I mean these are a lot of faces and they're not all the faces we've seen lately but it's pretty much a given that the meta will never include everyone.

I dont know why LCS is getting compared to the community ...

a player has a list of champions that they enjoy playing or have seen success in them.. having the same players in the LCS is why we keep seeing the same champions..

but there is also a reason they are in the LCS vs other people.. their picks work out better in the meta than others.
