League of Legends WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP- future thoughts
I'm going to start off stating that I'm not a fan of the current League of Legends World Championship mainly because of the pool structure and I'm not a (NA FAN BOI) I watch every region of League and enjoy each team from their respective regions.
I am however disappointed in the World Championship structure and the seeding for certain teams.
The NA region was the runner-up at MSI so they get a #1 Seed-{ Ok makes sense } but their reward was to also get a #3 seed from the winners of MSI and the 3/4(tie) region at MSI the #2 seed from the LPL. Just doesn't make any sense to me at all. It also makes 0 sense that the runner up region still gets their #3 seed in the pool 3?
Now I understand that NA didn't do much of anything at Worlds this year or in the years past but we have seen Riot include more teams and have changed up the structure numerous times in the past. This structure while they did include seeding at MSI needs to be changed that actually makes sense to the winners and runner-up regions for WORLDS.
This would be an example of what I would like to see this next year or in the future at The World Championships.
Each regions #1 Seed gets a Group to themselves. Every region gets 4 teams to represent them at Worlds. The LMS and the IWC regions have shown to not only have gotten better but deserve the same amount of RESPECT from their peers to be apart of the one year that the hard work pays off to finally get noticed.
GROUPS 1-2-3-4-5-6 The higher the number the harder the Group should be based of Regions performances at MSI. EXAMPLE GROUP 1 LCK #1 GROUP 2 NA # 1 GROUP 3 LPL # 1 GROUP 4 LMS #1 GROUP 5 EU # 1 GROUP 6 IWC #1 Lets say the 3/4 place teams don't go in a tie breaker for this years Worlds Structure but instead play for a 3rd place Match instead for the 3rd Group at Worlds. Having the LPL in Group 3 was just an example if RNG faced off against the FW.
Now being the IWC region came in last place at MSI their #4 Seed gets placed in the GROUP ONE with the Winners of the years MSI. EU came in second to last so their # 4 seeded team also gets placed in GROUP ONE, same with the LMS #4th seed also.
GROUP ONE- Will look something like this LCK #1 IWC #4 EU # 4 LMS #4
GROUP TWO- Will be similar but not identical to GROUP ONE, instead of having a LMS team in the group the LMS and LPL were still both equally good at MSI before the tie-breaker so that is why the LPL 4th seed is in the group instead. NA # 1 IWC # 3 EU # 3 LPL # 4
GROUP THREE- LPL # 1 IWC # 2 EU # 2 LMS # 3
GROUP FOUR- If the LMS won against the LPL in the ( PREDICTED tie-breaker) the LMS #1 seed would instead face the # 3 LPL team and not the # 2 Seed and vice versa. LMS # 1 LCK # 4 NA # 4 LPL # 2
GROUP FIVE- A tough group and rightfully so for a second to last placed region at MSI for EU, however a #3 Seeds from NA and the LCK region should still be in a tough group themselves with the # 1 Seed from EU.( INSERT G2 JOKE HERE) get it out of the way. EU # 1 LCK # 3 NA # 3 LMS # 2
GROUP SIX- The Hardest group as not only does the last place team at MSI has to face the The 3rd place winner region(LPL), the Runner-up region(NA) but also the MSI Winner region(LCK) IWC # 1 LCK # 2 NA # 2 LPL # 3
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ That would be the GROUP STAGE at WORLDS. The Bracket stage( NOT REALLY A BRACKET AT ALL; WILL TALK MORE ABOUT IT LATER) will go something like this. 2 Teams from each GROUP moves on to the Bracket Stage of WORLDS. If any LCK teams are still in the bracket up to this point they get the LOWEST Respective region from MSI so example would be if any IWC teams are left they play the surviving IWC team, if no IWC teams are left after GROUPS the LCK region will go up from the LOWEST to the TOP until the find the next to last place regions so example would be the EU region would be next in line to Face the Higher ranked # seed in the LCK region. If no IWC teams are left but 2 EU teams say the # 1 and # 2 EU seeds the LCK would face the # 2 Seed from EU instead of the #1. The next HIGHER Region(NA-LPL-LMS) would instead face the # 1 Seed from EU.
EXAMPLE OF THE (PREDICTED GROUP STAGE to SHOW WHAT THE BRACKET STAGE WOULD LOOK LIKE) of these are the teams that made it out of the GROUP STAGE LCK 1 LMS 4 NA 1 LPL 4 LPL 1 EU 2 LCK 4 LPL 2 EU 1 LCK 3 LCK 2 LPL 3 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ XLCK # 1 XEU # 2
XNA # 1 XEU # 1
XLPL # 1 XLMS # 4
XLCK # 2 XLPL # 4
XLCK # 3 XLPL # 3
XLCK # 4 XLPL # 2
The teams face off against each other but not in a Tournament but only in a single 1v1 Best of 5 series between the teams. (6) teams should be remaining after the "first round" has played out. The remaining 6 teams will face each other similar to where it all began. (MSI) each team faces each other twice in a single game round robin. The 4 teams with the best record advance from there and in a BO 3 to declare the WORLD CHAMPIONS.
Now this may take a while but honestly I don't think players will mind as more than HALF of the players will be eliminated anyways after the GROUP Stage anyways. The remaining players will get more chances and opportunities to showcase their skills. looking at the structure that I made it will mostly take 2 months from say October-December( 3 depending on exact dates). The younger viewership should still be watching the E-Sport event as Schools give out Thanksgiving Break and Christmas breaks so League can do a 24/7 World Championship if their afraid that this tournament style would be too long etc etc.
Just a thought as I was bored and just wanted to think of something E-Sport related.
Give me your thoughts and your own opinions on the subject; I would love to read them.
