No Third Place Match?

I know the LEC's new format eliminates the need for an official third place match but the LCS hasn't really changed theirs so I'm kind of surprised there's no C9 vs FQ match.

Did I miss something at the start of the season where they said they were eliminating the third place match (which is entirely possible)?

Or is this going to be an overall record thing so C9 just takes third overall given their relative record to FQ? It seems important for the sake of Championship points for Worlds so what's the deal?

Not sure who takes third or whether points wise they're just going to do 3-4 getting the same points. But there is no third place match. I guess the teams didn't like it.

Technically LEC's semifinal is the 3rd place match. The only change LCS made was exactly that 4th place match which didn't occur in Academy either.

I don't know the full details behind it but I do vividly remember social media griping about how 100 Thieves still got a Worlds spot despite losing the 3rd place match last summer. The heat of that mixed with a few other variables is probably the cause.
