Doubt I'm going to bother following worlds after this shit.
This year's finals solidifies why I never could give a shit about LoL pro play.
I have any reasons, and a lot which players here may be able to resonate will.
For starters, LoL pro-play had always been ridiculously boring with the same 20 or so champions being cycled between every match and it was fun to see a lot of 'off meta' picks being played this season with over 90 champions being picked. Kudos to that! Made things a bit more interesting but I cannot get over that this world cup has been a complete shit show with such obvious glaring issues over the few matches I could bother to watch.
First off - What the fuck is up with FPX? Okay, so this is a pro team. Good. So was every other team in the world cup and yet you see the teams which play against these guys act out their macro like some bronze level shitty players. Both the matches against G2 and IG turned out the same way. I am not even mentioning the fact that this made the matches seem outright scripted but you guys can decide.
- Players on the opposing team inting.
- Players getting caught off guard like it only happens in silver and below.
- Pro players with such massive jungle difference, the likes of which are only seen in EuW solo queue.
- Severe lack of communication between players on G2 in the finals which caused their laners to easily outright invalidated through jungle pressure in game 2 and 3 (which were a fucking joke). In fact G2's jungler didn't even make an effort to secure ganks or objectives in any of those fucking games despite playing Elise and Jarvan who can give Lee a tough contest over dominating the map.
- G2 players fucking grinning out of their teeth after the losses like a bunch of highschoolers who showed up to an exam without having covered the entire syllabus.
There's something very wrong with the last few matches against FPX, and it isn't just G2 who seemed like they weren't trying (even inting), but also their match against IG seemed rigged af.
In fact, the only reason I bothered watching pro play was because I was looking forward to SKT vs G2 this year, and thankfully that single match lived up to the hype. I still don't find LoL pro play fun to watch because every other match was a fucking shit show and honestly not worth the couple of hours investing into.
The pro players from every region except China seem to have trouble keeping up with this burst dominated, fast. They seem to be unable to keep up with how skewed the jungle pressure is, and clearly suffer from the lack of skill expression this game provides in this day and age where an unlucky player getting caught out decides the stroke of games merely because with how ridiculous snowballing is in this meta and every bit of gold gained brings uncontrollable one sided stomps. (When even Faker gets caught out, you realize this isn't just a solo queue problem)
These are problems which people on the boards have been complaining about for ages and we're now seeing their effect even on professional games.
At the end of the day, the League which we play is a complete different ball game still. We still don't have voice chat in 2019 and can't coordinate plays with teammates nearly as easily, champions aren't balanced around solo queue anymore, and Riot doesn't give a shit about player satisfaction, and the champion pool in pro play had always been severely limited prior to this worlds. These are a few reasons for why I've never actually enjoyed pro play. It's difficult to delude yourself into imagining that you're plying the same game as the big players, but after this shit ass world cup I care even less.
