If NA did better than China at MSI why is NA's 3 seed in pool 3?

I just found this to be weird. If Seeding is based on MSI where NA finished second why was I MAY in pool 2 dispite China doing worse than NA?

Ik it doesn't really matter because C9 and IMAY are in the same group but it was still weird to me

Yeah I thought that was a little confusing. Why is Europe punished for their Failure at MSI but China isn't? I mean the end result is about the same since as you said both third seeds ended up in the same group, but that was luck, the odds were 50/50 on that outcome.

You're a tiny bit off on that idea. FIRST seeds were what MSI was supposed to be about (to try and better represent where the power of each region stands). Once the actual playoffs for that tournament are decided, you're not watching anything of significant world-implication-ing importance so much as a cash tournament among the final teams.

The only way this could be rational would be if the Knockout Stage was Double Elimination so we'd see what top team from a region was better (since RNG and CLG never went against each other outside of the Group Stage).

THe question is why does NA still have 3 seeds and LMS only 2 even though they historically do better than NA.

Because we'd never want to punish eastern teams for performing poorly. We'll only punish western teams since they're so "bad" anyway.
