Simple fix to curb the flow of spam bots

Barcid··30 votes·4,202 views

Require a minimum player level to post and vote on the forums, like level 10 or 15.

It may not completely fix the issue, but it'll at least reduce this noticeably. As is, I can literally just make a new account and have at it.

There is. The vote manipulation is occurring on Gameplay, which requires a level 30 account to vote.

so what you're saying is that it's a side effect of Riot turning a blind eye to all the bot farms in the real game to boost "player" numbers

Did you know that accounts banned from the game are not automatically banned from the Boards? They could literally all be permabanned bots and it wouldn't matter. They could even all be legitimate accounts, it doesn't prevent the abuse.

yeah I'm sure the hundreds of games it takes to get to 30 isn't enough data to detect and ban a bot account

The boards moderators don't have access to data about in game suspensions. If Riot would get their act together and actually care about the boards they certainly could implement something like this - but the boards moderators have no way to access such data and it is not automatic.

We don't have access to in-game reports and suspensions because we're not Riot employees.

Right - I was more suggesting that accounts that are suspended for botting/selling/trading/etc in the game should be banned from the boards as well automatically by Riot - without you guys having to do it.

You are obviously someone who hasn't developed software professionally. Riot doesn't just "see" anything. Someone has to write queries/code to find those users, which is takes time. Not only that, you are assuming every account that grinds to lvl 30 losing is a malicious bot. Thirdly, Riot accounts and League of Legends user game data are most likely stored in separate databases. Riot accounts connect to a multitude of other services and software which makes deleting them haphazardly potentially dangerous.

Software isn't magic. You can't just wave a wand and get data a functionality. It take time.

I'm a full stack dev and it's clear Riot doesn't give a shit about this problem.

As a developer, one would think you might have more empathy for the situation. You would know exactly how complex some software platforms can be. Not only that, but riot is a video game company. Their focus is not building/maintaining we forum software.

I'm not mad about the form software I'm mad about the scripting detection they claim to have but apparently don't use

This is not what I am saying, no. Had I wanted to say this, I would probably have used words closer to those you used here.

Those bots level accounts faster than you can say no.

Most of these bots probably aren't leveled right now. Legitimately I can just make any number of new accounts and turn them into spam bots myself. At least if there was a level limit they'd have to dedicate computer time to having bots farm out levels one at a time.

Although they manipulated the votes on this post as well... so like, makes me sort of worried that they actually have already leveled these bot accounts.

Is it a coincidence this did not happen long after TTs removal?

Uhhhhh... fingers crossed that it is, but if it's not this is gonna suck, lol.

Say, not type.

IIRC you need to be 30+ to do so on gameplay boards, but these are affected too, so this wouldn't fix anything as the bot accounts are probably all hacked or botted 30+ accounts.

this vote is getting upvoted by botters because it doesnt matter at all
