Small indie company.
Good question. I've wondered that myself for a while.....
Honestly, there's no functionality outside of post history and its just another failure from the "improved" Boards (that are still in beta apparently). Our volunteer tech guys are working on fixing the Boards up, but I have no information if this will ever sport additional features.
I mean... you realize that The Boards are still in Beta, right? Riot is after all a small indie company with not enough resources, so having their message boards in beta for 5 years is perfectly understandable and normal.

Come change your look at the permanent BETA boards!
Maybe the idea was that we could have signatures and/or custom avatars and they never got around to adding that.
