Down Voting Is A Really Negative And Discouraging Feature

No one likes to see their things down voted, why does this even exist?

The constant barrage of down votes that come in for apparently no reason the instant posts are made is ridiculous. It's almost like there are down voting bots out there or something. Can this feature just be removed please?

If we like something, we should be able to upvote it.. but there's literally no reason to have the ability to down vote. If someone doesn't like the post or comment, they simply don't vote for it. Also, using the down voting system to hide content is just wrong in every way. If something is that bad to where it needs hidden or removed, that's what the reporting system and moderation is for.

They shouldn't be used for disagreement though, they should be used for hiding posts and replies that do not contribute to meaningful discussion.

If you click the upward pointing arrow, then you upvote the post (ideally because you think it's interesting and contributes to discussion).

Clicking the downward arrow, downvotes, and should usually only be done if you think that the post legitimately won't create interesting conversations (it shouldn't be used just because you don't like what they're saying - but if what they're saying is against the rules, then there's a 'report' button at the bottom of their post).

In my opinion, showing that the community collectively disagrees with the opinion of a person on a topic means something.

I'd probably downvote trump if I could. lol

If more people agreed with what he was saying, then it would get more upvotes than downvotes.

That is like saying that vegetables are monsters that want to take us over and that they do this by making us grow them. Then saying that every vegetable that grows proves your point. You are insane, and I love that.

Not at all. People are much more likely to downvote without even reading the thread other than a couple sentences or after seeing how long the inital post is, than to read the thread and upvote. I can go through the entire page and downvote any subject line I don't want want to click and read.

Problem with forum headers? Meh, downvote, don't care.

But at the end of the day, it is an important issue and shouldn't be downvoted into oblivion by a majority clique of forum dwellers who only want to see certain types of posts.
