As a long time Gameplay poster, I'm done with the board.

Hi, long time Gameplay poster here to express my concern with how horrible Gameplay is. I've been posting on these boards for almost 5 years now with over 40k upvotes with the vast majority of them from Gameplay and I have never seen the board so incredibly bad. Gameplay has never been a shining example of quality, but years of neglect has turned it into a steaming pile of garbage. Gameplay is frankly an embarrassment at this point. Gameplay is so bad that Riot made a separate Dev Corner board so they didn't have to interact with this garbage heap littered with landmines anymore.

Gameplay is in such a sorry state due to the insanely low standards it's been held too. Half the front page is straight up shit posts with zero substance. Almost no threads are made to promote discussion. They're made to whip people into a frenzy by throwing around buzzwords and downvoting any and all opposing opinions. All these years of neglect has persuaded people with well written and thought out arguments to leave. Meanwhile the top thread is some shitpost titled "Can't wait to see how utterly shit Riot makes the game this season with the "Soon" excuse". See what I mean? Yeah that thread sure was made to promote discussion. Yup. Mhmm.

Gameplay is a ghost town. Looking at the front page now the 4th "hottest" thread is a thread with 13 upvotes in 11 hours. Out of the top 50 threads of all time on that board, an amazing 2 of them were made within the past 2 years. And it's not because threads accumulate upvotes with time. They really don't. They level out. It's because how bad the board has become. It's become so laughably bad that everyone has left. It's the laughing stock of Reddit. Streamers make jokes about it. Even the other boards here meme about how shit it is.

Gameplay+ is a failure. Frequently it goes days or even weeks without a single post being put there. The best you can hope for is a single thread per day in short increments. This essentially already killed the board. I was excited for Gameplay+ but it fell very short.

Honestly I don't know if the damage can be undone but letting it go down the same path is only going to make it worse. The standards it's been held to for these years has killed the board. Something has to change. I've witnessed a good thread getting 150 or 200 upvotes to maybe 30 or 40 because everyone is gone and those who are left are only interested in shitposts, vote manipulation with multiple accounts, or making a new burner level 12 account to shitpost some more on. The standards NEED to be changed. This isn't a board where new players come to ask questions anymore. Gameplay is the board that everyone warns new players to never, ever come to to ask a question.

Personally even I can't take it anymore. I even have a fairly high tolerance to shitposting and angry circlejerks from posting here all these years and even I can't take it anymore. I used to spend a lot of time writing out threads ad even if they weren't super successful they at least would have people discussing them. I can't bring myself to do it anymore. Not with every single thread being the same "salty X main detected" or "rIoT r ReETaRdUd" or "uNpOpUlAr OpInIoN: pOpUlAr OpInIoN" or "MUH CIRCLEJERK" etc etc etc. Please do something to help fix this board. These current standards are not working. I'm not asking for perfection. I'm not saying there is a fix for circlejerking or assholes. But god damn is Gameplay hot garbage. It needs at least some standards.

What exactly can they do? Like, if they police it, people will just rage and whine and more of the same "Oh, Riot silencing us, clearly we are right." kind of mentality it already has.

ironic that this thread seems more like a vent than a discussion starter

i don't see why Gameplay+ is necessary when its parent board could just be held to a stricter standard. Even something as vague and lax as "Have a point to your post" would make shit way easier

Out of the top 50 threads of all time on that board, an amazing 2 of them were made within the past 2 years.

Just wanted to point out that boards usage as a whole is far lower, mainly due to Reddit. While it is true the top gameplay posts of all time will not be recent, the same is true everywhere else. The best M&G posts were from years ago, the best Concepts and Creations posts were from years ago, etc.

The reality is, Reddit took a lot of users. Not all of them, there are still quite a few on the boards. But the boards still only has a fraction of what it used to. So this isn't really a gameplay problem, but a much larger scale issue without a clear solution.
