Am I missing something in this boards update??

I'm seriously getting frustrated here. Probably about a week ago, the normal bar at the top of the boards was swapped out for this new one that doesn't match at all, but more importantly doesn't show notifications.

Is there a way to look at my notifications without clicking on my username > boards profile > click on the post I want to see?

And if this is something that's actually an issue, when's it getting fixed?
