Bug? Can't UNDO newly bought items if hit by Global ult at Fountain!

I'm not sure how well this issue is known, but if you buy new items at the fountain and are hit by a Global ult, you won't be able to UNDO the purchase you just made.

Last game I got hit by an Ezreal ult from across the map, after buying two longswords at the Fountain, and simply wasn't able to undo the purchase.

Even if this isn't a "bug", it does not feel intentional or at least smooth. If this isn't a bug and just a wonky mechanic, then please delete the thread.

Edit: If you're going to downvote me, at least have the dignity to post why.

That's normal, it considered you in combat and can't undo.

What if you just bought hp to block the global ult damage?

Riot has to draw a line somewhere. And in my opinion there is no difference in buying zhonyas and buying MR or Armor. It should not be possible to survive by exploiting the refund system. Making a difference between defence and offence might be possible, as there are, as far as I can think, no champions yet who scale defence on offence. If these champions were in existence, it should not be possible to refund either offence or defence, as you don't want to discriminate. Although it might be frustrating, I think Riot is going well about refunding and possible exploitation.
