The league client is making my ping sky rocket

My ping times to google.com average 55ms. Normally, when I open league, the ping times stay that way . However, today, as soon as I open the league client, my ping to google jumps to 200ms and remains at that ping rate until I close league. Why?? I've never had this problem before and I've been playing league for years.

I can't even play the game because it's wrecking my ping times.

The client's not updating.

I rebooted my modem.

It's still doing it.
