Some Tips for a Support Main?

BattleBossSoraka·5/27/2015, 6:42:54 PM·1 votes·944 views

I main support, and lately I've been trying some more unconventional champions to support with. The most recent is Elise, who I find to be an amazing magic pen tank support.

My question is, what would be good masteries/runes for such an Elise? And what are some other good champions that could support but arent usually seen in that role, and what would be some good runes/masteries for them?

Malphite's a little more popular now but he's still a fun support. I hear Mundo is really good too.

Maokai is my not seen too much pick. Q for displacement, W gap closer, E free ward early zoning and slow, and his Ult is amazing on a really low cd. Rush sight stone and RoA, the rest is whatever want/ need.

for Elise, I would recommend hybrid pen reds, because you may be able to auto attack some people as well as that your spells are magic. health yellows, I haven't tried Elise, but your choices for glyphs would be: a)mr per lvl b)flat mr c)magic regen with a mix of magic pen for offensive usage.(usually 3 magic regen, 6 of pen)

for quints, use 2 armor, and the remaining could be mana regen for spam, magic pen for scaling, or for more tank runes you could go for hp flat.

I've had some fun with gangpank support (in normals). I took him hybrid pen marks + tanky runes. I believe I used tanky 0/14/16 or so tank-support masteries. Early sheen. Sighstone+Face of the Mountain+Ice Born Gauntlet core. Frozen Mallet if you can afford it, but the build is very flexible. He scales all kinds of different ways, so you can choose items based on on-hit/aura/active effects and still get something out of the base stats, or you can just go more tanky if your team needs that. q for the slow followed by raise morale for the speed boost nicely combines a weak slow and a weak speed boost for a decent speed difference, and itemization makes it even better; good for both chase and disengage.

Probably not worth learning when we know they plan to make major kit changes, but I found it remarkably effective. (Don't build critplank as a support tho, that's just trolling.)

ziggs support is good, the poke is incredible so you get gold easily with spellthiefs edge. you have a slow that does great damage, a knockback with a brief stun. and an ult to pick off the people that manage to get away.

another fun one is kennen support. great damage, great initiate. no mana, so he can sustain pretty well, and constantly harass. hes seen quite a bit now.

but naut i think pairs with everyone well and is such a hard thing to play against. you can take so much damage, deal ridiculous cc and great initiate.

really anyone can support, you just have to play them right.

Leblanc, MALPHITE, Mundo, maokai, poppy, lux (fairly okay)

Sorry I've never played Elise before so I cannot give you tips on her... but another unconventional support I like is LeBlanc, especially if you land her E on the right time. :)

Sometimes I pick wukong support to counter people with skillshots because you can just w then trade with them. Usually I go for item 3302 then upgrade it to the next thing and after that I get either a item 3025 or a item 3022 so I can peel for my adc with my aas then I full upgrade the support item and build tanky. Put a sightstone in there somewhere and i think its a decent build. maybe add a bc if your doing well or can afford it for w/e reason. The only problem is that until he gets his first full item hes really weak and pretty much only an ult bot. His q reduces armor so it helps to kill tanks and his ult is really good for peeling/engaging.

I have not seen many karma supports but shes really good on a dive/engage team and works good with kiteable melees like volibear, warwick, nunu, etc. plus she can put out pretty good dmg and help her adc deal with tanks after getting a liandrys. Also since liandrys combining items are pretty cheap its not hard to buy and you don't really have to save up.

Vel koz is a decent support but you probably already knew that.

I've also been experimenting with rammus support lately and doing ok but I don't really have a build for it.
