Voli jungle, or anywhere

I picked up Volibear to play mainly in the jungle, but will try in top and maybe supp. Any tips for jungle or other lanes? Builds/runes/ mastery's would be appreciated too. Thanks for any help you can give.

  1. Your passive is a massive %HP ratio, meaning building health in surplus even way more than normal to other tanks and fighters is both totally viable and sometimes suggested to do on Volibear. Take full advantage of all the fighter items that give bonus health, and if you are unsure what sort of defenses to build, just default to more health stacking.
  2. Your Q is a %based movement speed bonus. Flat movement speed bonuses therefore synergize with it the best. I don't necessarily recommend Boots of Swiftness, but the point is that if you build a lot of flat movement speed, your Q will get you places.
  3. Auto Q auto. Stacks your W really fast.
  4. Try not lead river ganks with your Q. If you can, get behind your enemy and lead the gank with your E and regular auto attacks, and only use Q after they burn an escape.
  5. When jungling, especially during the early game, do not be afraid to use your W right away. Thanks to the cooldown reduction, you will usually be able to use your bite twice per camp.
  6. Be sure you play around with your W. Especially if you're stacking a crapton of health, it does waaaaay more damage than most people expect without the enemy having to be at like 10% health. Don't waste all that power it has by using it too late into a fight for an overkill execute.
  7. Remember to Majestic Roar to catch up to enemies. Sounds simple, but it really bothers me when Volibear players either use it after they land their Q or never use it when chasing with Q.
  8. Thunder Claws is a neat bonus, but don't over invest into it. Your power is in your Passive, Q, and W, remember that. It's alright to build a little bit of attack speed but let your ADC do all the major DPS on the team for you.
  9. Trinity Force+Sterak's Gage is a pretty dangerous combo on a fed bear.
  10. Depending on the team match up, you may find yourself relying on Q. Do not be afraid to rush 40% CDR when you see the need.

I used to play quite abit of toplane volibear in season 3-4 and played him once in season5 I found out he does pretty well into machups like irelia (used to obliterate old fiora) and hecarim (voli is generally resistant to triforce users who try to burst you down because of your passsive)

in lane, Qing the enemy after they autoattack you is great for putting them in the middle of your minions as they have just pulled aggro, your E fearing enemy minions drops their aggro from you as well (since Q is an autoattack for aggro purposes), making your trades very reliant on fresh minion waves as you stack your W to bite them as they run from the pounding your minions are giving them

I tend to start with a doran's blade or two as my first items and head into a sunfire cape (since voli pushes waves so damn slow otherwise)

i generally go for items like randuins, spirit visage and frozen heart to round out my tank stats, and sometimes a wits end or a bork for attackspeed since later in the game most of your damage comes from that (more autos, more ult procs) frozen mallet can be a good alternative as well since slowing an opponent lets you wail on them more (and the hp from it scales so well with your W and passive)

Volibear no love for the bear?

I've been spamming Volibear recently. I'm not sure if you even need any MR on him beyond merc treads and scaling MR blues in standard matchups (no sustained damage AP). He is already incredibly resistant to burst because he hits something like 4500 HP on a cinderhulk build. Instead you can invest in even more armor or damage.
