Newb/Veteran Program for those in need

Onegarion·11/7/2014, 3:24:13 AM·8 votes·892 views

We've all been there in the beginning of our League/MOBA career where we knew absolutely NOTHING. Where it was cool to build item 3031 on everything because it did so much damage or rush a item 3026 as our first item because being revived is always a good thing right?

Well I don't think these moments need to be ripped from anyone. Those are the memories we all have of better times before the grind of competitive play really started.

So I'm here to start an impromptu group filled with veteran players that are willing to help out newer players who are ready to start getting serious and play competitively. Like I said I think it would be terrible to take away the fun for new players and indoctrinate them as hardened competitive players from the start.

CHAT ROOM

I've made an in game chat room from Don't Smite Me's suggestion. I've named it Learn to League. If you want to talk in game instead of on the Boards.

MY GOAL

Overall I want to make a community of players who are there for each other. I don't just want you to have that coach there to help you (which isn't terrible by any means), but to have players who will help you through the rough times in league where you start getting discouraged. This game is really a great game and the community isn't really that horrible, but there are some players that are. Sometimes you just need someone to help you out when this comes. Sometimes you need that person there willing to help you have fun again while playing. I've hit that point before and its not good. You need to continue to have fun when playing even in the middle of the competitive rush that league gives.

THE PLAN

The plan right now is to get a group of veteran players of different types. I'm looking for players of all roles. I want to get a group of people that want to meet new players and want to help others learn to play the game. As more players want to join I will start to organize people as needed. I'm thinking of 2 groups one being a competitive group where it mainly is the mentor/student concept for those fully ready to commit to being competitive and the other being about overall for fun and learning basics.

ASKING

As above I'm looking for veteran players. It doesn't matter if you are bronze 5 or Korean Challenger. If you want to meet new people and help new players or those looking for some help let me know. I'll make your name available for new players. Let me know a few things about you.

DISCLAIMER: You don't have to actually answer any of these. It will only help further if you do. You don't have to give all or any specific ones, but answer at your own will.

  1. Let me know Why you want to help. DOESN'T Have to to be long, but a simple "To help competitive serious players," "To help new players," or "Just to have fun while helping new players" will beyond suffice. If you want to give more be willing to let me know.

  2. Let me know your timezone and when you usually play. I don't want new players picking you if you can't help them because you won't be able to play with them. This is a general time so ofc if one day you can't then no big deal. I'm EST time in the US so i'll convert all times according to that. Also your Server. Have to make sure you all are on the same server or that would really cause problems.

  3. Your main role/secondary role or if you want give me the breakdown of all 5 roles. If you are mainly competitive then give me your top that you know you can help people below your rank. If you aren't for competitive it would be cool if you gave all 5 roles since once you hit level 30 you will know SOMETHING about each role even if you hate it. You can include any other information referring to roles.

4)Leave some info about your favorite champions whether they are your main or not (Main Thresh, but fave is Vlad) doesn't matter. Some new players may be able to feel more comfortable if you play or like the same champs.

  1. Any Hardware like Voice chat programs, if you have a mic, how far you are willing to go. Don't feel deterred just because you don't have/want to talk with a mic. Some people like the anonymity and we shouldn't break that.

NEW PLAYERS

If you are a new player just leave a message down below telling us you are and what you are wanting. We don't want to put you with someone serious if you just want to have fun. I want to make it so you are getting out of it what you want. You should look to the Asking section and answer as many as you can. If you don't know thats PERFECTLY OK. For the newest of players you may not know everything. Thats completely ok and isn't frowned upon. Give us as much info as you can or feel comfortable. Don't shy away and try to go it alone. Personally I did, but it wasn't easy. Thats not so much because this game is really bad or really hard, but its always easier when going with friends or someone there to play with you. As long as you WANT help don't be afraid to ask for it. There are always people here to help you out in this community that seems so bad.

Personal I'm going to go ahead and leave my own information and answer my questions.

  1. I'm starting this to help everyone have fun and enjoy league more and to connect with people to further make it more enjoyable.

  2. I'm in the Eastern time zone and will usually play a number of hours. almost always 10 pm to at least 12 pm, but realistically its much longer. It all depends on my work/school schedule. I can play as early as 630 pm on some nights so I have a ton of free time. I play on the NA server, but have accounts on both EUW and LAN.

3)For those that are competitive I'm a massive Support main. My secondary Role is ADC. When it comes to normals I'll play anything that is fun or I want to improve on. I take the Ultimate Bravery Challenge occasionally to add more fun and difficulty to my normal games.

4)My favorite champion is for sure Thresh. The chain warden and me go way back over 1k games over the last 2 years. I like playing Vlad top lane with his theme and play. I play Hentai Vel'koz when I want to go mid for a new feel for a mid laner or Lissandra if I'm feeling a bit cold. Jungle I love playing Wukong. So much fun. ADC i play whoever. Simple as that.

  1. Currently I have Curse voice, Dolby Axon for chat, but I'm not against getting any of them. I have a working mic and headset for dedicated gaming.

I hope I see some new faces and players wanting to help or learn. This game is a great game and I want to make sure everyone both knows it and can enjoy it.

Stream I'm going to put a couple streamers here that join the group. Its not always optimal to play or spectate for some people. Some times they need to watch someone and listen to them on what they are doing. Its just the way it works. All the streamers must be veterans here. Just let me know. I'm not going to be harsh for toxic behavior Unless you are toxic to the players here for help. I won't tolerate this or extreme toxicity in which it benefits no one.

I like the idea. I'm often busy (I'm actually really, busy, but if I can help, I will), but spend some time here and there helping new players/low ranked players.

I want to help for fun and I enjoy teaching what I know. I don't take the game too seriously, but I also don't troll and the same thing goes for how I teach; I'm not there to carry, I'm there to teach so if it's a loss, so be it as long as they are learning/having fun.

I main support/top and getting into adc, but I can mid and jungle if needed.

Eastern Time Zone.

I will say again, I don't have that much free time. I do have time off during 6pm to 10pm during this time most days, but not all days.

as for chat, if it's free and safe, I can get it.

my favourite champs are: tryn, nasus, and thresh.

tryn, while he has a lot of annoying matchups, he has some easy ones and some are about even. it's about knowing the matchups and knowing what you can do.

nasus, safe early game, strong late game. build him mostly tank while dealing crazy damage if free farmed/easy laning. I have often first picked nasus because I know how to survive lane with him (not get completely destroyed vs some) at the very least vs any matchup.

thresh, laning pulls and flaying people around is often really fun I've found. while having a good adc really helps, I've carried games with him with adcs that didn't quite play adc ever and have told me that. main thing is knowing what people will do before they do it I've found and knowing what you can do (this helps with any champ really).

I'm helping one person currently, but that's it besides the odd "can you watch my game to see what i could have done better" sort of thing.

  1. I like helping people and I could probably learn a thing or two myself along the way.
  2. I'm in the central US timezone and I usually play on every day except Tuesday and Thursday and I'm on NA
  3. I main jungle but have recently been branching out to the other lanes, and I'm a more casual player, not too competitive, I'll play ranked sometimes. My secondary role would be support. I'm currently Silver III, I think I'd be higher if I played it more often.
  4. I rotate champs a lot as I feel I haven't found "the one" yet, but Nautilus , Skarner and Rammus are high up in my book. I'm a tank fan. Recently been playing Xin and that's been a fun change of pace.
  5. I have a mike and I'm fine with talking to people as that's the best way to communicate with them. I have Teamspeak and Curse. If you find a noob for me that want's to learn how to play I can help.

  1. I'm a new player who's only been playing for three or four months now, and so far all I've played is Support since I'm still working on solo-laning (harassing and cs'ing at the same time has proven to be quite a bit tricky to me so far). But right now, I'd really appreciate help with Supporting, considering it's the only role I've been maining so I'd rather be ace at it so I'll take all the help I can grab from anywhere.

  2. My timezone's UTC 5.30+ and I do play rather often but with rather inconsistent timings since I tend to work at odd hours depending on my shifts and my university classes but my schedule is rather flexible.

  3. On Rift, I main Support, and I've jungled occasionally with Warwick but that's about it so far. I was thinking of branching into Jungling eventually but with all the proposed changes to the jungle in S5 I figured I'd put it on the backburner for now till it came out. And I love spamming ARAMs when I need to grind for IP or if I feel like my game's off.

  4. I've been playing Sona since day one and honestly I think it was that champion that got me into supporting and showed me just how versatile the role is in general. Of all my games played so far, I'm quite sure 3/4th of them, which is probably around 300-400, are Sona games. Lately I've branched out into other supports, and I've taken a liking to Janna and Nami. I also can manage Morgana and Karma but nowhere as decent as Sona or Janna. And I'm working on my Alistar. I've tried tanky 'all-in' supports like Thresh or Leona but I don't think they fit my playstyle for some odd reason, or maybe I'm not skilled enough, but I do tend to prefer 'magey' supports. I've also tried off-meta supports for shits and giggles, like Ahri and Syndra, which was an awful lot of fun because I felt like it forced me to be creative with my kit and play it from a support's angle so I could better understand what my priorities are if that makes sense.

  5. I've got Curse, TeamSpeak and Skype though I'd prefer the former two considering they're rather lightweight.

Welp, that's it I think. Sorry about the wall 'o text.

I could use help from whoever is willing, I'm on a massive tilt right now down from silver 3 promo series (was in Silver 3 promo was to Silver 2+) and I just got on a massive losing spree, now I'm down to like 40 LP in Silver 5 and falling. Anyone willing to duo or watch to give me help would be greatly appreciated.

I live in the Eastern Time Zone and will usually play anywhere from 10:00-3:00 AM depending on the night, what i have the next day and such, may start earlier and may go later.

I want to be able to reach at least gold in ranked but I am having issues carrying games and closing them before my enemy can catch up. My main roles and champs I tend to play in them are -Mid: Syndra, Azir, Orianna, Fizz, Viktor I like these champions because they are strong laners, have crazy burst and/or crazy DPS for team fights. One of my best being Syndra, I will regularly get highest damage output to champions with her but I will still lose somehow (usually crazy tanky bruisers that no one can kill and will just finish off the rest of my team after we've lost a lot of HP trying to reach & remove the ADC/APC), Azir is a great Assassin counter because he can harass them before they get their burst & he can self peel with the wall after they use their initiate to stop them from using that burst in a lot of cases, Orianna is just really safe and great in team fights with her ult and the AoE damage she can put out, Fizz is great for dominating some mages, roaming and removing a carry from team fights, and Viktor has crazy AoE and Single target burst -ADC: Ashe, Caitlyn, Jinx Gotta have that range. Great AA range on all of them, great in lane harass and good kiting prowess. Ashe is good in a high harass lane (Caitlyn) cuz her E passive lets her keep up easier, Caitlyn is great for punishing low range ADCs, and Jinx scales really well into late game with rockets for range or minigun to burn through tanks -Support: Sona, Karma, Morgana, and one I'm pretty good with but still learning is Blitz Great harass on the first three, and can effectively turn the tide of a team fight on Sona or Morg with a good stun/snare. Morg I find it hard to get the R to stun because everyone runs or focuses me before it pings so I either die or no one is close enough to get stunned :(. Karma can make an enemy ADC's life hell if you're good on her, and Blitz is all about landing that clutch pull on the carries and erasing them.

These champions are actually some of my favourite to play too. Out of the roles listed I prefer mid if I can get it because I feel I will have the greatest impact there but SoloQ being SoloQ I often get shoved into ADC or support (the latter most often). -Mid lane my favourites are probably Azir, Syndra and Fizz because they are all super fun to use and have carry potential (I have yet to carry as them because the enemy team always has counter carries to remove me, or my team fails to/doesn't have enough to save me from their carries). -ADC I love Cait and Jinx because of their range. -Support I love playing Sona and Karma and building them with a somewhat offensive centered build, in my last Sona games I managed to do crazy well (lost still) almost matching my ADC in damage when the enemy team beat us around 30-35 minutes (no I didn't KS my ADC often, it was just those kills that I had flash to snag and similar situations, for those who are going to say that I starved my ADC of gold by stealing their kills), and with Karma I can often kite some bruisers to death with her kit either killing them solo or stalling them until my team comes to mop them up.

I know my champion pool is HUGE and I've been trying to cut some out but I like having the options if I need them.

I use Skype for most of my game chatting but will only give it out if I trust someone, which takes time as I have crazy paranoia about that kind of thing

New-ish player here, started around the beginning of summer iirc, reached 30 not too long ago and junped straight into ranked (not my best idea ever) and went 2-8 for provisionals anf was placed into bronze 1...

I would mostly like help in knowing when it's a good idea to roam during laning phase, as well as when its a good idea to split push when out of laning phase, as well as better map awareness, as those have been seen by myself and others as my biggest flaws.

I am in the Central time zone, and because of my work schedule, I genereally play from about 6pm at the earliest and am usually done by around 7-8am

I generally try to play top lane, but if that fails I will play mid or jungle. I try to avoid playing adc orsupport as I am usually a liablity to my team when I play those roles. My champion pool is kind of all over the place in terms of who i play, though I have done good on Jayce Ryze Maokai for top lane, and mid lane I usually have good scores as Katarina as well as fizz. While Jungling, I used to be good with Vi Shyvana and Nocturne, but when I took a break from jungling I never could get back into it.

I dont really have a main, though i used to be really good with Shyvana in both top lane and jungling. I dont really have a favorite champion either, though I am liking Irelias playstyle right now

I have most all forms of voice programs, though would prefer not using skype as I wouldn't like to give that info out to people I dont really know.

Hey! I'm pretty new to League and I just can't seem to get the hang of it. I started about 2 weeks ago and I've been gaining about a level a day. I have most of the basics down and I've been watching videos and streams trying to improve my game but it doesn't feel like I'm getting anywhere. I've only really played beginner bots so far because I'm nervous about playing solo queue at my current skill level. I've never jungled or topped and the couple of pvp games I've played were ARAM with a friend who kind of just threw me in without actually helping any. I don't want to be that feeder that hinders the whole team. I really want to improve and be an asset so I'd love any help that I can get.

I'm in the midwest so I'm on central time. I'm normally on anywhere between noon and 2am. It just depends on what I'm doing that day.

I mainly play mid and bottom. My favorite champion is Annie and my other mains are Sivir and Miss Fortune.

I have Curse and my name is Prettylittlehellfire. I can download other chat programs if needed though. I want to make some serious improvements before the new season starts so any advice or help would be awesome. Thanks so much guys.
