Irelia build

So I recently started playing Irelia because.... well she wrecks top lane a lot. so far I've gone 8/7/2 then 13/2/1. So i'm learning her and definitely getting the hang of things by the end of the second game. My question here is about her item builds. What I've done so far is gone tri force into full tank. This is great and ridiculously strong in the early / mid game.

Late game though I feel like she falls off hard with that build. Should I build a BT or Bork maybe? Late game it seems to be about up front bursting down the adc / apc and tri force just isn't cutting it. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. This is from a carry standpoint. I would have no issues going full mega tank if I could rely on my solo Q partners.

Yeah you can build another damage item. Usually IAS based. item 3153 or item 3172 or item 3087 or something. But her first job is always to live to stick to squishies.

I prefer playing her jungle because I hate top lane, just a boring lane, even when you win it you still lose it because the enemy just chills there all game and pushes your entire base while you try to be productive elsewhere.

Anyways, my jungle build is cinderhulk, triforce, merc treads/tabi debending on the enemy team, randuins/SV order depending on the enemy team, then usually I pick two out of banshees, frozen heart, and GA, but warmogs or thornmail are also good options.

I like to go item 3078 into item 3142 if I am ahead and want to carry, gb makes it very easy to stick to and shred squishies. Going Tri into full tank is usually the optimal build for her though unless you snowball early.

Irelia does fall off late game because she gets peeled easier and doesn't blow up squishies like she can in the mid game.

If you want more damage you can go with some lifesteal. I like to play Irelia mid and a good build could be item 3078, item 3006, (item 3065oritem 3143oritem 3110) then item 3153 then another tank item then item 3035.

Trinity Force is typically your core item. After it has been completed, you generally want to focus on CDR, Armor, MR, Health, and Attack Speed depending on team compositions. Irelia's damage starts falling off a bit late-game, so you'll generally want to get 2 damage items if possible. A normal build may look something like (in no particular order): item 3047 or item 3111 or item 3006, item 3078, item 3110 ,item 3065, item 3153, item 3143

Frozen Heart and Spirit Visage provide a nice increase to your durability (Health, Armor, MR, increased healing) and give 30% CDR. CDR increases the uptime of your W and your sticking potential (Q, E) significantly.

Other common purchases may include:

item 3172 Used as an alternative Tenacity item, commonly against AD or AA heavy teams so that you can purchase Ninja Tabi. item 3153 Provides sustain and on-hit percent current health damage which improves your ability to fight tanks and stick to squishy targets. Offers a nice increase to damage and sustain. item 3142 A good pick-up when snowballing against squishy teams to provide a short-term boost for assassinating squishies.
item 3156 A good pickup for a mix of damage and survivability against AP heavy teams. It doesn't offer attack speed, but the MR and shield can be quite valuable against certain team compositions. item 3091 The alternative to Maw of Malmortius. It provides more useful offensive stats or Irelia while sacrificing the magic damage shield. item 3074 Very useful for waveclear and splitpushing,, providing good sustain and a burst of damage. item 3075 Great pickup against AA-heavy teams, since the reflected damage combined with your sustain can make you quite difficult to kill.

Covered in a bit more depth since I saw you question it elsewhere.

Armor Pen is actually pretty decent on Irelia due to the constant Spellblade procs and the high base damage on your ultimate. It's very nice for bursting down squishy champions like the ADC or APC.

The big things about Youmuu's Ghostblade are:

  • it is extremely cost efficient when the active is in use, which can offer a burst of power
  • it gives 25% critical strike chance when combined with Trinity Force, increasing your sustained damage
  • The 20% movement speed is great for chasing down targets or escaping

It's a situation item that can be purchased when you are snowballing and don't have to worry about killing the enemy tanks.
