Counterbuild for Blitz?

I tend to play mages and AP-based supports, and every time the enemy team has a Blitzcrank, he just constantly walks over my face with Q>E>R ensuring that him and his ADC send me 100-20 without any chance for me to act. Only way I can avoid death is by hanging back so far from the fight that I start missing out on XP. Any advice?

Yes, I know about keeping minions between us. In a perfect world, that'd be fine. And early game I can only ward a bush so often, and having to ward the bush constantly means I can't keep an eye on the river.

Stay behind minions and you can stay in lane with him. His grab isn't unavoidable and unless he's kinda close to you, you should be able to avoid it a decent amount of the time. Although if he's really good he can kinda zone some supports and there's not much you can really do about it. Poke him as much as you can get away with early in order to try to get ahead. But really, if he has to chase you too far to grab you in lane, his grab shouldn't be an instant kill. Keep your hp high by using healing pots and it should be a lot harder for him to kill you. But do ward since if he grabs you and they have an extra champion ready to jump on you, it's really hard to get out. However, if you get too far behind there may be very little you can do anymore.

Some abilities like Morgana's black shield can also make him almost completely useless.

If you really can't figure out how to position to avoid getting grabbed, you could also try watching some videos of how really good players deal with laning against him. But be warned, if your adc isn't very good, you probably can't get away with some of the stuff that you should be able to. So you probably can't get away with doing exactly what they do but it should give you some good ideas.

For counterbuilding, you can try getting some more movespeed. The faster you can move, the less he can zone you. Also if you get something like Frost Queen's Claim or Talisman of Ascension, then you can use that to escape if needbe. Or banshee's could probably really mess his grab up but that's more of a lategame thing that you shouldn't disrupt building your core items to get. I also recommend using a very tanky rune page against him. You can get armor quints, health yellows, mr blues, and if you still want to be tankier, you can also run armor reds.

As a Blitzcrank player,

Try to dodge, predict where his hook is going to be, this is all about mind games Miss a hook -> GO HAM ON THEMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM OOOOHH (sry im 2 hyped) You need to understand that the hook is Blitzcrank's bread and butter. If he misses a hook, he instaloses almost every trade. He's most of an all-in support, so you need to poke him out before going for a trade. Pretty sure if he can't hook you, you'll win almost every trade. I usually play Nami against Blitzcrank, because I know how to dodge his skillshots, and I can outpoke him without getting punished. Nami is different. If you get hooked, you can ebbbbbb and flowwww them to heal yourself and deal dmg to them, so you don't actually lose the trade that badly. Seriously don't play Sona against Blitzcrank, though.

About warding... I usually ask my ADC to ward the river brush and I ward the lane brushes. If he doesn't ward, we'll just play a little bit safer.

The other commenters here have some excellent advice, so I'm just going to share some counterpick-y supports. AP: Janna (can stay back and not poke, awesome disengage, passive MS helps dodging), Morgana (black shield, pokey puddle) Tank: Leona (oh look, I can start Q and still get in), Thresh (like Blitz except he isn't utterly useless when his hook's on CD)

In general: MS bonuses, not having to poke/being able to poke through minions, not caring about being hooked, and disengage are good against Blitzcrank.

EDIT: Consider taking Ancient Coin over Relic Shield or Spellthief's Edge.

I usually do Ancient Coin so I don't have to worry as much about gold. Black Shield is actually a main reason why I started picking Morgana over Soraka.

@Miku I'm still in Silver, so I can't really rely on my ADC for anything. :|

Thanks for the advice, guys!

So I actually play against Blitz a lot. I main 'raka, so its all about the vision. Try to keep him out of the bushes as much as you can, if he insists on bushwhacking then you can signal your jng/adc that he's overextending. Blitz's power comes in his durability. He has crap for sustain though. I usually start with item 3301, item 2054 x2, item 2044, and item 3340 . Have your ADC ward something, then you get the other 2 bushes.

Just started playing Blitz (and having a lot of fun, even if i'm a bit rubbish)... but more to the point, I've had a lot of Teemo V. Blitz games. Speed is your friend, and realizing how badly that Blitzcrank player wants to get that grab. Man they are dreaming about it, and all the knockup they are going to do after they land it. Feed into their dreams, of course they are in that bush, right on the edge. Play stupid, not literally mind you, stand still for half a second ready to click away. Usually aiming for the river will cause the miss no matter if you are blue or red side. If you're not feeling brave enough for that... if he's in the bush, then stand towards the top half of the lane, you can still get the minions, and you're out of range of the hook. He comes out and comes top, move to the bottom. Focus your efforts on last hitting, and just keep moving up and down. Yeah you aren't always going to avoid it, but make him work for it.

And always ward. If you're the ADC get a ward or two out of the gate, and on some of the early backs. If you're support, for the love of god will you buy a sightstone! Please! Sorry.... too many games with supports who just don't see how valuable being able to see is.

If blitzcrank player fires and you can see try to always run to the right of his hook he fires from his left hand i think if im wrong just go the opposite way when the blitz crank player fires directly at you it really goes more to the side that the hand fires from moveing to that side is sure pull moveing to the opposite side gives it a chance to miss. there is item 3102 obviously. i find it more important to ward the river and stand in the minions or even bait out his pull and dodge some times early it i can do it you can practice . as for blitz comming into the brush just watch him and run when you notice he is about to do something. missed pulls are very costly for blitz early it uses alot of mana and is on a long cooldown early item 1001 go a long way

item 3009

Or play someone who wants to get hooked if they pick blitz before you pick. I know Leona and Braum are both good counters for him because they want to be in their faces.
