supporting is hard, can anyone help?

I am a support main and, during pre-season I managed to get silver 1 and carry myself to gold. Now, in season 5 I have received the rank of bronze 5 after winning 3 of my placements. I was wondering if there were any experienced support mains who could help me out with the challenges of a jungler feeding my lane or when my support goes "all in" at times where there is a very small chance of winning. I love supporting as Leona , Nami , and Braum and have recently picked up Sona & Lux, and what should I do when I pick a support before my adc and they won't tell me who they are going to pick? I am pretty good at counter picking enemy supports and AD carries but how can I carry as a support?

Thanks for any help -TheVeryVeryBest

I would say don't focus a lot on counter picking, as bot lane synergy is much more important. Pick for your AD, and I would strongly suggest picking up Thresh.

Bot lane comes down to 2 things, not taking free trades, as trading some damage beats taking 2 free autos and doing nothing and falling very far behind. It also relies alot on what i call rotational damage, concept is if your ADC gets engaged on you need to punish their ADC. In team fights focus entirely on peel, your only objective is to protect the backline, for this I would recommend morg, thresh, annie.

Another key point of bot lane is making sure you and your ADC work together, if they want to play hyper aggro you need to atleast attempt hooks, it shows you are trying and in most cases will satisfy the bloodlust, because they should see without a good engage they will lose. And who knows maybe you land a good hook and win lane from that.

Leona and braum! Typically, I'd wait for a good time to CC the adc and force a good fight with a level adv at 2/3 and follow up with plays based on opportunities afterwords. There is only so much you can do in lane, If you know how to carry about with objectives, make sure to ping them to sway your laners attention to them.

~Wards: Quality over quantity. Make sure to keep relevent zones warded, and keep the pink ones up. (Before a game, say wards win games, and people will usually ward more.) ~Focus on peeling for the most fed person on your team if your ADC is a potato. ~Take direct action to force objectives (See last 10 games with an objective and ping focused gameplay: http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-history/NA1/217090469?matchType=2 ) ~Alternate to a carry support, Someone like annie who can burst.

Do your poor adc a favour, and please do NOT play Lux support. We all know she's really a mid laner. We all know that people who play her in support only do so because they're upset they didn't get to play mid. Then they miss shields (if they even do shield) and steal your kills so they can get fed over the adc.

But anyway to the point, play-making supports do wonders. You can secretly carry your team as Thresh, Blitz, or Leona.

If you're first pick and/or don't know what your ad is picking, get a support that has good peel, synergizes with the rest of your team, or you're just confident with. I've picked Nami into leonas and threshes and have won lane because I'm really confident with her and I set up kills for my ADC.

Sometimes you do get potato ADCs but if you can peel for a carry-champ on your team, you've done your job. And also ping when you engage/make sure YOUR positioning is good when you engage if you're playing someone like Leona. It irks me to no end when as an ADC my support Leona decides to engage 1v2 on their minion side near tower when I'm not standing close enough to follow up. Takes all the minion aggro + 2 champs damage... bad trade
