Help on playing Syndra

Hey guys, do you have any tips on how I should play Syndra in Mid Lane and or Support? I picked her up a few days ago and I really like her, especially since she's not some damn FotM or Overused and over hyped pick for either role. She's difficult though and I was wondering what you guys would suggest as far as playstyles, builds, and even runes that are optimal on her ( I know she's AP but not all AP champs build the same). Any thoughts and suggestions? Thanks.

I'll tell you what I've learned in the past ~3 years.

Runes are generic except for 9x CDR/level Glyphs. These are just too good and with Athene it's capped CDR (at level ~13 if you happen to get a blue buff). Sure, you can go with MR or Mr/level, but if you couldn't survive with max CDR, 12 MR won't make a difference.

I already mentioned it. item 3174. There is not a single reason to not buy this item for Syndra. Mana restore guarantees you won't run out of mana in longer teamfights. Early item 3028 helps surviving other APs in lane too. Honorable mention for surviving in lane: item 3145 courtesy of Overlord Forte.

Generally AP build requires 4 core items: item 3089, item 3135, item 3020 and item 3174 as a mana item in our case. What else you can put here: item 3157 - Balls of Gold, pretty mandatory in any situation, but you don't lose out much damage for not building it now, item 3003 - No mana problems ever, especially if coupled with Athene's, item 3116 - W might be clunky at times and Q is easier to hit + adds survivability, item 3285 - Best choice for the highest damage build, that is, if you couldn't get item 3070 stacked for item 3040 sooner.

Of course you can put any other item in here - for example item 3152 as mentioned in the second paragraph - those are just the most obvious choices.

As to the playstyle. Don't waste mana on level 1 Qs, unless you are 110% certain it will hit. It's just not worth the mana. Wait with actual harass to level 4, when you put second point into Dark Sphere. W with a minion/near dead Sphere into Q to guarantee a hit of the latter. For heavy harass combo, Q the enemy into E then follow up with W. Mind the fact E is your only build-in gank prevention tool. The rest you need to figure out.


Don't ask me how to build her as support, for I've done it only once for teh lulz.

Ok, Syndra was my first 6300 champ although I don't play hermuch anymore.

What I usually do

item 1056 item 2010 item 2004

go home losing lane? nother dorans

winning lane? rush chalice.

after that you kind of have to rush athena's into nomicon for the cdr.

Ludens Zhonyas Void Tear are all pretty good on her.

If you play her support start with a item 2041 item 2003 item 2003 item 2004

Go for a tear and another mana pot, your goal is basically to Q E any adc dumb enough to step out of line and disengage for your adc. Not really much of a kill lane pre 6 bc you don't have enough damage or cc.

AT 6 support,

Ok 2 things you can do, Ult into E and let adc finish

Ult the support and use those balls to give the adc kill to your adc.

take it easy in the first few levels since her damage isn't that great early anymore, and try to get some harass when you're level 5 so you can burst your opponent down at 6 if he doesn't back

Well I just go solid glass cannon Syndra.

So pen and solid AP.

31AP and 7.8 MPEN

Although this is probably not a very good strategy it is very good for dominating lane if you have even a sliht advantage. What you don't have in magic resist you make up for 100% in damage. Specifically if you go Ignite Flash.

BTW, a fun thing I like to do no matter where I play syndra. Ward the enemy jg, wait for them to be half way done with blue and pick it up and throw it towards yourself, it's even better if your jg is there and they can smite it. The enemy and whoever leashed them are now so behind because they need to double leash to stand a chance.

As to the Ludens ekko thing, it's really nice to have because your such a spell spamming assassin/mage. Death cap is nice to have but I don't rank it above tear of the goddess because of tears' tank smashing potential which is important late game. So I usually get it around 4th? 5th? item depending on when they start building against me, it's like item 3035 for ADC's.

If you are having a good time in lane (got like 2 kills super early.) then it's nice to get a tear for the free mana and the late game artillery.

The way I see it there are a few ways to play Syndra.

GLASS CANNON SYNDRAAH: item 3174 item 3026 item 3020 item 3157 item 3135 item 3089

TANK SMASHAA SYNDRA: item 3001 item 3003 item 3158 item 3135 item 3116 item 3151

ULT 1 HIT SYNDRAA: item 3165 item 3020 item 3135 item 3089 item 3285 item 3174

ARTILLERY SYNDRAAA: item 3003 item 3023 item 3135 item 3089 item 3009 item 3285

MID LANE SUPPORT SYNDAA: item 3504 item 3003 item 3222 item 3361 item 1329 item 3157 item 3285

TL:DR Syndra can be played a lot of different ways, it took me an hour to write all this so you better freaking read it......
