Yorick ... Yeah, just Yorick. (?) How does he work, worth getting, etc?

Onwodori·4/13/2015, 2:34:09 AM·5 votes·5,404 views

And I thought I was a hipster.

Hey there, Master Fledgling here.

Yorick has always seemed cool to me. But unlike Galio, Urgot and Trundle, the other least played champions, he's not on free week!! How am I to decide if I want him if he isn't around?

Let's keep this short:

What is he good at?

What positions are viable for him?

Does his ultimate account for AP? (So while it revives them with 50% AD, do they get their 100% AP?)

When is he getting that nifty overhaul that's been rumored for years?

That's about it. Carry on your daily lives.

I do not have much knowledge about yorrick but I think you should check out the game where unicorns of love played yorick (and Cassiopeia) against fnatic. The casters explain it a bit and you get to see some strengths of his kit

I play Yorick - I would consider him one of my mains.

He falls in the strategic realm of lane bullies and siege machines. Although he's technically a melee, he plays like a ranged champ. You really only melee to invoke his Q-ghoul and do some close in farming.

Your play pattern will generally consist of harassing with E and W. E will be your primary tool as it gives sustain as well. I often try to last hit with E.

W is his only ghoul that can be cast w/o a target. It also gives you sight. So it's good for bush checks and blocking skill shots.

I generally max E first - put two points in Q and W then Max W. Q is lowest priority in my playstyle.

I usually start tear and get that stacking. I often opt for early cooldown boots because it really cranks your ability to spam.

Like Honey-Badger .... once you hit six .... Yorick don't care. Escaping with Yorick is rarely an option, so if you get ganked or get into an aggressive exchange, Ult yourself and pick up a few kills after you died. Don't be afraid of dying with Yorick. I daresay half my kills with this champ come from doubles kills post-mortem.

I only build maybe one damage item on Yorick. The rest is health-tank like Randuin's Omen and Spirit Visage Depending on build, by mid-game you can be a one champion seige machine able to push back multiple enemies at a time. He's also very good at counter seige.

MicroBr3w4/13/2015, 4:00:54 PM4 votes

I like him top. He might not crush the lane, but he's hard to bully out of it. I also like that I can build him tanky or more damage, depending on how the match is going.

Oh, and he's an undertaker. With ghouls. So yeah, he's a buy

GhostOfShrimpmas4/13/2015, 8:19:20 PM3 votes

I'll be the voice of dissent here and say that I actually love him in the jungle. His whole first clear needs only one health pot (you can get by without, but I'm paranoid). And that first clear includes both buffs, all small camps, dragon, and your opponent's small camps that they didn't have the sustain to kill. Start with E, then max out Q for the insane damage it does. You can clear dragon as soon as you get both your red and blue buffs, by carefully positioning your ghouls so the splash damage from dragon doesn't hit you. And, since dragon always attacks the closest target, he'll never actually attack you unless you go oom. His ganks are pretty crap early on, but he has the sort of jungle sustain that warwick does, but can do more than just right click. And once you hit 6, your ganks get better, but in a weird way. Your only CC is still pretty bad, but you can just chase them under their tower with no real danger to yourself by sending in ghouls and your ult first. Your build will include Triforceitem 3078 (much better than iceborn, since the phage passive helps you keep up), Essence Reaveritem 3508 (literally every single stat he wants on an item, and you are REALLY mana hungry), and Frozen Malletitem 3022 (you have a small slow and a decent speed boost, but no actual gap closer, so you want to be able to stick to a target), and whatever tank items you feel important. I prefer Warrior enchant on a Stalker's Blade, since I don't like stacking health on champs that heal a lot, but you can get Cinderhulk if you don't feel comfortable being so squishy. You can basically duel anyone at any part of the game and win, except maybe Tryndamere, and you can chase down pretty much anyone but Kassadin. You won't have the standard jungler ganks of "jump in, get a kill, leave", but will rather just come in, bash them to death under their own tower, kill that tower, and then take their jungler's buffs.

It's a really fun way to play him. Much more so than in lane.

Yorick is a top lane tank that can jungle (i am still trying to get him down jungle but did well with him there in nemesis draft).

One of the few counters to Olaf

Lots of fun to play and if played right very hard to shove out of lane.

Odd mechanics with his ghouls as you do not control them.

He is getting a full rework that will be on the sion scale of things but it is still a long way off.

His ult does not take into account ap as you summon a specter of yourself or a team mate but it can only use basic attacks hence the ad scale, if said champion dies it replaces the summoned ghost for x seconds and can is not controlled by you unless you ult yourself and all abilities can be used during that time.

I own Yorick and have both his skins, Pentakill Yorick i like the most as he reminds me of Slash from GnR and it was a mystery gift, and the undertaker one i bought recently when it was on sale. I do hope he gets some love and a couple of new skins.

Finally you will not see Yorick in the free rotation along with Poppy as both have been removed from Free Rotation for the time being anyway (yet you will see him in the champion sale but not poppy)

Leti the Yeti4/13/2015, 7:48:24 AM1 votes

I heard that laning is all yorick is good for so I guess he's the go-to counter pick for every top laner who you dont want fed or snowballing

Drunk Rummate4/13/2015, 3:50:15 PM1 votes

he's got a really strong lane and an absurdly strong teamfight once full build

the issue is that he's extremely boring to play and he's easy to take advantage of with good duelists like Riven.

GaleWinUnleashed4/13/2015, 4:49:33 PM1 votes

Yorick's massive rework will probably happen in the next year or two. Not exactly right around the corner, but it's definitely coming.

MrBuffington4/13/2015, 4:57:10 PM1 votes

He's up for a Sion level relaunch, so I might hold off on getting him just yet unless you really dig his theme :P

TerraRising4/13/2015, 5:13:05 PM1 votes

Most of Riot's game-centric teams consider Yorick a "toxic" champion. He has a fairly "brain-dead" style of play where you, effectively, spam ghouls, which have a slow, attack reset and life steal component to them. Also, his ult, created literally at the final hour, used to crash games with Mordekaiser. Yorick crashing Ascension mode was just the most recent example of this.

Generally, Riot personnel have the opinion of either distain or outright hatred for the champion (Morello once said that Yorick's release was "Riot's biggest mistake.") Even current Riot staff, like ZenontheStoic, says "f*** everything about Yorick" when you bring up the champion in conversation.

Currently, Yorick is very hard to bully out of lane, but he's not necessarily going to win you a lane, either. Start with your W, then prioritize R>E>Q>W as you level up.

Generally, there are two ways to build Yorick, depending on how the game is going, but I usually start with Manamune and Sheen, along with Merc Treads. You can then go Frozen Heart or Iceborn Gauntlet and Spirit Visage for defense or Trinity Force for offense.

Your ult, which creates a duplicate for 10 seconds unless the target dies, which then resurrects that champion for 10 seconds. It's usually best cast on your team's hard carry, either AD or AP, as said ally would likely be the other team's target.

Finally, Yorick's getting a full rework... Soon™. We don't know when it will be released, how much the rework will change or keep of the Gravedigger or anything meaningful about the rework except that ChampUp "just started working on it."

Daen4/13/2015, 5:36:30 PM1 votes

Top is the only viable position for Yorick, to my knowledge, and he's essentially good at war of attrition. He generally gets lots of mana itemization early (crystalline flask) and spams ghouls, some of which heal him and all of which serve to push his opponent completely away from the minions.

He's a very strong laner except for against extremely effective all-in/sustain champions like Renekton or harrassers like Vladimir/Teemo. Generally speaking, most champions lose lane to Yorick until they eventually outscale him (which most champions do), so he's all about pressing an early advantage.

I'm really biased against Yorick (I despise his kit when playing against him), so I won't go into any more detail than that for fear of influential bias.

Dryditch4/13/2015, 5:57:11 PM1 votes

Yorick Combos:

Top lane: Start E. Harrass HARD with a point/click ghoul that heals you. Pick up Q or W depending on how close your enemy gets to you when farming.

Tear->Frozen Heart->Warmog->Spirit Visage->GA->Mobis/Homeguard

Jungle: Start W or E. Gromp, Blue, Wolves, Scuttle. Back for TB. Krugs, Red, Wraiths, Scuttle. Start ganking at lv6, and ult your laner when enemy engages. Ult yourself if the enemy focuses you, run away, let clone beat the crap out of them. Profit.

Similar build, but replace Tear w/ Jungle Item of your choosing.

I've done supp Yorick w/ Kalista. It's terrifying.

Champion Skin4/13/2015, 8:53:39 PM1 votes

I don't play or see much to Yorick but from my understanding he is a lane bully which doesn't scale very well but he can be decently good late game with a late game carry if he ults the carry before they die especially the ADC (thought the APC or something could be good if they haven't already used their abilities)

He can work well though if he doesn't have anyone good to ult then his late game can be not so great as he usually ends up at as a tank with not so great CC and not so great damage

TacoPunch4/14/2015, 12:32:08 AM1 votes

Yes! Buy him! He's incredibly fun and practically counterless in lane. He's good at winning lane and saving certain carries in teamfights. He can bring the ADC/master yi/yasuo etc back to life and completely change a fight. Or, you ult yourself and 2v2 the top & jungle. He's relatively easy to play and his builds are pretty simple.

Go look up InvertedComposer's Yorick guide on his website! He's a challenger Yorick main and my personal hero.

Top lane, out of all the top lane champs Yorick does the best -_- I tried other champs but Yorick and jayce is the only dominant champs. They counter hard.. Yorick sustain and slow and tears is just so powerful..

krashhazard6/9/2015, 9:05:38 PM1 votes

Yo, you can solo Dragon at lvl 3 and come out with 90% health or more. His gank isn't ridiculous like most jungles but he can really bully a jungler during a counter gank.

Just this: 5 drags at 20-30 minutes, depending on the other team's warding.

imonly4noobcakes6/9/2015, 10:06:10 PM1 votes

He's a great top lane pusher, and can be used for jungle...if you are a good jungler.

MetaAwesome6/10/2015, 4:32:30 PM1 votes

Coming from a Rank 4 Yorick, (started him a month ago, shhh), He's playable in any lane or role if you know what you're doing. Yorick has a killer early game but a "bad" late game. Your goal is to make sure your enemies never reach their late game form by destroying them early game like a Shaco, that's how I think.

Top - Tanky Fighter Mid - More Offensive, AD Mage, maybe get some defense if people star catching up Bot - Support - Use Ghouls to harass or block skillshots, revive your adc for 10 seconds and go ham. Jungle - Green for AOE/Slow, Red for sustain, White for AA resets/Damage/Speed boost. Of course don't forget Cindyhulk.

Build (most of the time): item 3042 item 3083 item 3078 item 3065 item 3110 item 3267 Build (When going Damage Heavy): item 3042 item 3071 item 3025 item 3083 item 3065 item 3267 Build Jungling: item 3709 item 3043 item 3065 item 3083 item 3078 item 3267 etc.

Yorick Winrate: 18 Wins/5 Loses TOTAL

Manamune is life.

DrathTurtle3144/13/2015, 2:40:48 AM1 votes

Top, just Top. You can try to jungle with him, but no. He is a Top.

Don't buy health potions on him, you won't need them. You might need mana pots, but as long as you have mana you can stay in lane and heal off your ghouls. SUSTAIN FOR DAYZ!! Other than that I haven't figured out how he is supposed to be played...

Maple Crusader4/13/2015, 3:10:35 AM1 votes

Yorick Mori is the BRICK wall of the Shadow Isles' champion roster. Difficult to bring down, and durable. As the others have said, Yorick is great in top lane. He has great sustain, and he's great at shoving lane. It would be best if you get a mana item with him, either a Tear of the Goddess or a Glacial Shroud.

Jamnon4/13/2015, 3:31:09 AM1 votes

Dont bother yet unless you REALLY like his theme and want to play him. Hes in the que for a bit of a kit rework so id wait X years it takes to get him fixed.

That being said, some people are really successful at him so if u want to play him, learn from them and see if thats what u enjoy. if so, get him.
