Want to learn Jungle

Not sure if this is where this belongs, but oh well.....

Title is pretty self-evident. I'm thinking about learning jungle with all the new changes for preseason. Anyone have any helpful info for a new jungler, or any recommendations of a fun/interesting champ for beginning junglers (also builds, runes, & masteries ideas would be great)? Anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

This is a heck of a time to learn how to jungle, as the jungle has just undergone some serious changes as the last season winds down.

Lots of things about the jungle are still in flux and new strategies are being cooked up. (Maybe that actually makes it a better time to start since you won't have any old jungle habits to unlearn?)

Despite all this some tried and true jungle picks will probably still be great go-tos including Warwick MasterYi Amumu

Here are some channels that generally have solid Youtube videos about jungling (it may take some time for patch 4.20 content to get more fleshed out):

I haven't seen a super awesome new season / patch 4.20 general jungle guide yet, but I'll be keeping my eyes peeled. I've seen ones that compare the new jungle to the old one, but if you're not super familiar with the old jungle that's of less use! Maybe other folks will have some nice resources on hand.

One thing I've picked up on is that you should always start at Krugs (formerly Golems) or Gromp (formerly Wight). Smite them immediately for their buff (Krugs give stun on hit every few auto-attacks, allowing for easy sustain in the jungle. Gromp grants poison armor, dealing magic damage per second to enemies that attack you making you clear really fast). Champions like Yi, Skarner, Udyr, and Nocturne would prefer Krugs over Gromp (except for Warwick cause of his easy sustain). Champions with great sustain like Warwick, Elise, Nunu, and Fiddlesticks would prefer Gromp since they can easily heal damage they take and would get faster clears from Gromp's poison armor.

Personally, I'm going to try and get really good at Skarner for this season. He's completely off the radar (low chance of having balance changes that lower his power), can sustain well in the jungle (Krug stun buff + his passive's mini-stun and his shield on W keep his health up), and has decent clear speeds. Best of all, his post-6 ganks can usually create kills, force the opponent out of lane, or force a flash. Only problems I really have with him is low early damage and he eats through his mana early on without a blue buff or mana items. His mid-game is wonderful though. Overall I find him fun since he's like a giant gnat constantly bothering whomever he pleases (since he is amazing at sticking to a target, but give him enough time and he'll kill a target while taking minimal damage (slow and steady wins the race, or in this case it kills the carry).

Here is my two cents

due to the new Jungle changes, their is a lot more transparency for junglers, and more options are available, So I'm going to talk a little more about the items.

the item 1039 now upgrades into one of 4 items that Augment your smite. item 3713 Rangers trailblazer gives you an AoE smite on a shorter Cooldown, that stuns monsters and heals you. I would default to this because it give you faster clear time, something you really can't go wrong with.

item 3715 Skirmisher's Saber gives you a smite that can target champions, Marking them for 6 seconds giving you increased damage while their damage is reduced. While this sounds like a good dueling Item, I wouldn't get it on a duelist. (these items can Highlight a champions strength but it could also patch a weakness) It's actually pretty good at counter invading and counter ganking.

item 3706 Stalker's blade gives you a smite on champion for reduced damage, a slow, and grants vision of target. This is a fair item for assassins and duelists who lack crowd control.

item 3711 Poacher's knife grants a reduces smites cooldown by 50% and grants other bonuses when use in the enemy Jungle. This is thee counter Jungling item. Though I would not rely on it, too much.

Each of these items has an enhancement that buffs your champion stats. they are Warrior, Juggernaut, Magus, Devourer. Chose which ever one fits your champ best. Devourer is of particular note since it is meant for auto attackers, and is basically a better version of Feral Flare.

The short version: you aren't level 30, it's not possible to learn how to jungle without a full rune/mastery page.

The long version: jungling is probably the most difficult task in the game and requires the most knowledge and awareness of the game. There's a 50/50 chance you are the team's shot caller and decision maker. You are also going to be blamed a lot whenever things go wrong. Also the jungle is now very rough and you need the right champ type and a full rune page (tier 3) to do your job at a basic level.
