Does the mentality really mean that much?

Hi. I'm ShyRaven currently in Silver 3. I ended last Season in Gold 5 and reached a peak of Gold 3.

Im a support main, or I should say I'm a Morgana main. Morgana is my favorite champion so I use her whenever possible in ranked.

Im a quitter. I give up when I see a hopeless match. I get even more upset when my allies try to tell me that we can still win this but the way I see it, the enemy is just far more skilled and there's no hope of victory.

My past 2 matches. The first one the enemy Xin Xiao was just far more skilled. He went 8/0 we were behind 2 drags and fighting at our inhib turrets. I saw no hope for victory and simply gave up. I mean, I know the difference between a fed champion and a skilled one. Xin was a skilled one.

Then my last match. I was already feeling doubtful due to the Darius insta first pick lock on the other team. Looked up his stats in loading and saw 59% win ratio with Darius. I was doubtful but went on. He then killed Riven in the first 30 seconds of minion combat and she instantly rage quit. Our lane (bot) was pretty easy. Thresh was overly agressive and we were winning trades. Skarner managed to get top lane and kill Darius as well. It didn't take long for the enemy team to realise that Riven wasn't coming back and they started abusing their advantage. Darius walked all the way from top lane, between thr two turrets at mid to steal Skarners Blue buff. "FF please" messages went out and I said I quit and sat at fountain. After about 5 minutes I remembered how much 20 minute Queue times sucked and my allies kept saying "we can easily win" so I rejoined. 15 minutes later, we lost.

I do the same thing in other games. When the enemy takes out 70% of my hp and I havent even touched them yet I usually just sit and let the match end.

I just dont understand the point of matches once I realize that my opponant is several Leagues more skilled than I am.

I constantly say "There's 0% chance of victory".

I dont mind losing. I like good games win or lose. But I hate one sided matches. Even the ones I win I dont like.

What do I do? How do I stop feeling this way?

You have to realize when a match is actually 0% win and when it isn't. Sometimes the enemy having a fed Xin means nothing because as long as you hang in there with say, a Kalista/Leona/Yasuo combo or a Malphite/Orianna, you can win the game off a single defensive ace. Or if you have LeBlanc or Rengar, you can win the game off a single catch, even if the rest of your team is feeding.

Here is what you have to realize: you don't deserve to carry if you don't have the mentality of hard carrying. People aren't going to feed pentakills to you unless you are way more skilled than your MMR.

just because someone is way up ahead, doesn't mean the game is over like you lost your lane really bad. there are many ways to play the game, but in the end it mainly boils down to this

  1. what is your team comp? is everyone picking assassin? then should end the game early or else you can lose when enemy has a lot of cc and tanks. most bronze and silver player play w/e champ they want instead of thinking of team composition. like are you going to win your lane? is that champ counter to someone? can you tank or initiate in team fight after the laning phase is over?
  2. if you are not confident, then you work your weakness. how is your mechanic? can you last hit all the minions? do you land all your skill shots? can you deal max combo for damage? do you know all the item build for different situation? may be you need to expand your champion pool.
  3. are you making all the correct decision? does your team group up and get objectives or pick enemy one by one? if enemy is grouped in one area, can you backdoor and push? did you get the correct item in certain situation? like enemy is getting a lot of amor, then you should get last whisper if your the adc, or get some mr when there are a lot of ap champ. these are all shot calling/ strategy and decision making you need in the game.

if you are lacking on something, work on it to improve yourself to carry other people. otherwise wishing for other people to dominate their lane is wishful thinking and you are at the correct elo if you can't carry.

Your going to win and lose games either way. The key is to take all those losses and learn from them. If you just give up when you are losing, you arnt learning that match. Learning how to play from behind or play at a disadvantage is how you get better.
