What the... I'm Bronze 1 why am I fighting Diamond 3?

So. I know lots of people make posts about this. The general community response seems to be a mix of "cause you need to git gud" , "Duos" and "your normal MMR must be higher than your ranked MMR, must people just goof off in normals so Diamonds will have extremely low MMR in normals."

But if that last one is the case...how can a casual bronze player like me have fun? I gave up on ranked long ago. By that I don't mean I don't play ranked but I gave up on ever becoming anything more than another casual Bronze-Silver player. The highest I ever achieved was Gold 3. And that was 4 years ago. But I enjoy the rotating game modes in League (I wish they were available all week instead of only weekends).

Now I'm not going to exaggerate and say all my matches are defeats but for the past 10 Ascension matches I've played I've only won 3. Losing in itself is fine. It's getting crushingly squished and not having any fun is what's bothering me. I mean look at my match history! Everyone in these matches I've played with is Diamond, Platinum, and low Golds. And the "It's not a normal game mode so rank doesn't matter" argument does not hold a candle to me. I'm pretty sure a Diamond 3 player has more mechanical skill than a Bronze 1, regardless of game mode.

My last match just felt really bad because I'd like to think I did pretty well (omg I actually had a postive KDA!) but when we lost my entire team blamed it on me. Then the enemy Riven posts a twitch link in chat and leaves. Of course, enemy Riven is diamond 4 smurf, and turns out all my teammates (except 1) were Plat.

What I'm saying is. Can I play with people that are my own skill level please? And I hate smurfs.

I read a comment saying Riot doesn't care about smurfs because their cash cow streamers do it and apparently nothing is more entertaining than watching a Diamond smurf crush Bronze players. So is that all we are? Fodder to keep the cynical Diamonds entertained once they're bored of fighting eachother?

most diamond players play literally nothing but ranked, all day every day. then one day the server is down or they want to screw around with friends and for the first time they play a normals game again in 3 years, but the catch is their ranked MMR has 0 influence on their normals MMR. so that diamond player has a starter normals MMR as if he was brand spankin new.

Rotating game modes have very loose matchmaking because the population of players playing those game modes is very small compared to summoners rift. If the game had more strict matchmaking requirements then queue times would skyrocket. Furthermore, this wouldn't guarantee you wouldn't get paired with high elo players because like you've already said some high elo players have low MMR in normal games.

If you're playing the game for fun then what does it matter if you win? Just laugh it off. Playing with people who are better than you, especially when you are low elo, is part of the game. It's just like if you were to join a MMA gym occasionally you're going to go up against a black belt and get your ass kicked. Just relax and have fun, it's a game.
