I am trying to get overall better at LoL; should I play solo que or team ranked?
?
?
I think it depends, if your not too low elo. Like gold or platinum I think playing on a team can be very helpful because most of the time that is where those players are lacking. Athough if your below gold I think the best way to learn is solo queue because in those elos you mostly have to carry your team and its easier to do it in the chaos that is yolo queue. In team play if someone starts snowballing the other team is either gonna camp that lane or get another lane fed that will be able to kill you. I hope I helped :)
Honnestly, both have their merits (and both their flaws)
It's hard to focus on hardcore mechanics in a team evironment. It's way better to focus on objectives. It's hard to focus on objectives in SQ, people won't necessarily listen to you or you'll think that you have a better idea and won't follow.
But, to be succesful in team, everyone has to be good mechanically. But, to be succesful in SQ, you still have to be able to call good objectives.
One goes with the other. Prior to the last segment of S2, I was "stuck" around Silver 1. I got lucky and got invited in a team that was participating in a tournament. Played with them (it was more of a fun thing, than something competitive really), and learned a lot about the game.
Got back home, kept playing solo queue and got to Platinum 5 from Silver 1. I watched a lot of my replays to because of that. We got commentated and I felt the need to watch it. SO I learned a lot from all this experience.
So my best advice to you is, replays and a good mix of both. But mainly replays.
brawling/playing the map: dominion laning/organised teamfights: SR standoffs/disorganised teamfights: Aram
apart from that you should be clear that you need quite different skills to succeed in ranked 5v5 or 3v3 than you do in SoloQ (which is also a reason why a high-regarded SoloQ-player like incarnation canßt just come into the LCS and find success immediatelly).
