Lux Build/Playstyle Help

I've been maining Lux Lux mid, and if mid is taken support, for almost a year now, and its been my most successful champ/role. The last time I asked for advice on my build was when I first started playing, and since then I've made some changes, so i figured I'd get some more feedback on my mid build and strategy (and clarification on a few points).

I start with Dorans, and generally 1 health pot and 1 mana. Occasionally, if I have a really safe lane, I'll start 2 mana so I can be a bit more aggressive. I generally ward my jungler's other buff with a ward.

I like to build for Athene's first, even against an AD champ (I know morellonomicon is the meta, but I find myself running out of mana with that, and I never run out of mana with Athenes). First back I buy chalice (plus fiendish codex and/or boots if I'm ahead) then I rush athene's.

Next I go for Ionian boots, for the cooldown cap, and a 30 second ultimate cooldown. (I've got another 5% from masteries). I believe that Sorceror's is the meta, for cheap magic pen.

Next I go for Liandry's, as by this point I need magic pen. Void staff is meta, but I believe that Liandry's passive works with 2 of lux's abilities (q and e), making each do an additional 6% of a champion's max health over 3 seconds, which seems pretty useful, especially vs tanks.

After this, I go straight for Rabadon's.

For my final items, I had been going for Luden's, followed by Lich Bane (for some really good movement speed, solid ap, and useful passives). Now I'm thinking of switching in Void Staff and Rylai's (or maybe Zhonya's). Void for extra magic pen, Rylai's for extra slow (could help out in teamfight's) For my playstyle, I typically stay behind my team and act as artillery (fairly successfully) so I haven't found myself in need of Zhonya's, but I'm considering trying it out.

I don't go mejai's, I'm solo queue and if my team and I throw a fight in a close game, the hit I take could lead to a loss (I'd rather have fairly stable power than increased power and vulnerability).

I'm starting to consider buying morellonomicon when I see an enemy Soraka, limiting her heals might be worth running out of mana a few times.

I tend to go with summoners as recommended by this guide http://www.liquidlegends.net/forum/lol-strategy/475850-season-5-lux-the-lady-of-luminosity#matchups (I typically run flash/heal, as I keep a distance from enemies so ignite doesn't help much).

I'd appreciate any advice that anyone could provide very much, or any discussion that could lead to this build's improvement (or my playstyle's improvement). I know this post is an eyeful, and thanks very much to anyone that makes it this far. Lux

I take scaling CDR glyphs (15% CDR at level 18) to get 40% CDR by end-game with only one item (Athene's).

My build ends up looking like this:

item 1056 .... -> item 3174 item 3020 item 3285 item 3135 item 3089 item 3157

This maximizes her burst, which is her strength (as well as poke).

I never buy Lich because I am almost never auto attacking people late game. I never, ever get Ionian boots because Lux NEEDS the magic pen to burst. I never buy Liandry's because... Lux is for bursting. It could be a very situational buy against a super tanky team, but not core. Morellonomicon is also situational and really hard to play with because of her mana issues. Lux doesn't need HP, so I never build Rylai, either... plus the slow is nearly completely useless with her kit. Could be an extremely situational buy if your team doesn't rely on your damage at all.

i play Lux by starting item 1056 (2)-> item 2003 Then i go for item 3174 into item 3020 or item 3041 then the other one. Next a item 3089 . Then i either get a item 3157 or item 3285 or item 3100 (1 of these 3) and finish with a item 3135 . When ii first back i switch my trinket to item 3342 and when i can after 9 into item 3363. This is my build i use. Liandries only does "Current health" not Max Health and with the build i suggested if you don't die often you'll be carrying games decently hard. I also usually run flash barrier since barrrier and W do a lot of shielding.

To improve you need to not only improve the champion, but your item knowledge. Even if your always playing lux, the items you choose should be situational. Now your lane match up, as well as champions you think iwll give you trouble as grouping starts to happen. This way you can build items to counter your problems.

  1. Use mpen boots
  2. Don't use Liandry's, it is expensive for the stats it gives, and Lux isn't really a champion who benefits from the DoT

I like item 1056 into item 3174 (against AP) / item 3165 (when the MR is useless), item 3020 then item 3285 + item 3089 , then either item 3157 if needed for armor + active, or item 3135 if they have MR.

item 2139 as needed.

item 3100 to me is a luxury item if you can somewhat auto ppl without dying, or if you really need the extra power to help take down towers and inhibs with your team... other than that I tend to stay away from it.

As for spells many people take heal or barrier for added protection, but I'm not really used to packing these spells on mid laners so I don't tend to have the reflex to use them at the right time, and I don't personally enjoy the playstyle. I go either Ignite for added aggression in lane or teleport for strong map presence. Can't tell you how many kills I've had with TP into lazer on unexpecting side laners.
