Lost A Promo Match Due to Client Error

So, I needed 1 more win to make gold 5, had 2 matches with which to do it, I got accepted into a ranked match, and before champion select my client froze. I waited a minute to see if it fixed itself, restarted my client, queued for another match, to find I have a 5-minute wait and a loss in my series as a penalty for quitting.

I've been playing league for 3.5 years now, and I've only ever left 1 game, a bot game, when I was new (and because everyone else left). Shouldn't there be some sort of grace for those of us who don't quit matches, like, some sort of first-time forgiveness? This annoys me to no end, I never act in a toxic way, and I spend a good deal of my time in league putting up with those who do, so when I get punished for something, its frustrating.

EDIT: For the record, I missed the afk check, and that's why I lost this promo game... This feels like really bad design to me.
