Amumu = freelo

Yeah, I have to agree with the general consensus. As a standard jungler, amumu suffers from quite a few flaws that prevent him from doing much to enemy teams. His lone "engaging tool" pulls him towards the enemy, making him pretty killable in teamfights/doesn't really help out your team too much (as the enemy team can easily ignore him and pick off your backline). He also lacks the ability to 1v1 enemy junglers/"invade", making him a huge liability vs things like nid or the now-popular elise. Jungle nautilus exists so people don't have to use amumu.

There's nothing tanky about him unless he builds it actually. His only defensive steroid is the small damage reduction on his e, which is made more for jungle monsters than slowing down an adc.
