Hey so I bought Aatrox on a complete whim earlier, mostly because his lore is so badass. After playing a game with him in mid and top, my first impressions of him are that he's basically a champ that forces you to go balls deep but lacks the damage/cooldowns to go with it. Kind of like Xin Zhao's little brother or something. Am I wrong? Also for any Aatrox mains out there, any tips?
For some reason he's really good at jumping at out-of-position enemies, then doing everything to them. Either they slow down and can be caught by someone else or you burst them. The same mechanic works in teamfights of course but of course teamfights are less predictable. I think the reason for his power in teamfights and two-player confrontations is his W, which excels with attack speed. It has as about as much power as Jax's ultimate and the option to turn it into a weaker heal, giving you an advantage over anyone who has no defense (like Jax's dodge) to your attacks in any situation. Unless you're behind, then it doesn't. And unless you Q into someone right infront of the fog of war and his whole horde comes to help him, Q has low cooldown.
Whenever I play him I almost always go like 6-0 in laning phase but as soon as like team fights start I just die in 3 seconds whether Im building full tank, full damage or like 2 damage items then tank. And if you build him full tank he does literally no damage. He's really weird.
Very strong laner due to his W damage / sustain. His jump allow you to catch out of positions enemies and your ult is a good tool to chase down / ignore front line. You need to go tanky to not die in 2 seconds tho, glass cannon Aatrox is a build of the past, you,re kind of late to the party for that. Get like BORTK, hydra than tanky items like spirit visage, dead man's plate etc

I've tried to main him. I even purchased Mecha skin (1350 RP). Very rarely I've succeeded in playing as Aatrox. Should also note that I'm not a pro and there always is someone else's guide on the internet.
He's vulnerable to CC. Don't be the centre of attention. Use [Q] to secure kills; not to initiate battle. "There will be no escape" Include attack speed into your builds (to get [W] 3rd hit). Include +Health into your item builds (Titanic Hydra new item).
Over time I've become so disappointed with Aatrox that only yesterday I did my first refund. I refunded Mecha Aatrox not just because it was underwhelming --. Sad times for Aatrox...
I've made really cool suggestions to improve Aatrox. They're balanced thoughts and would like to see it tested.

Go jungle devourer, stack that. Get Botrk, Randunin, Visage, Hydra and a Zephyr -> go 1v5 and that's basically it :3
