Easy Mid? (dumb it down for a support main)

Archon X·9/30/2015, 8:40:00 PM·1 votes·2,072 views

Well I had a game the other day (unranked, thankfully) where I had to mid. I took ol' Heimerdinger because I don't like having to cs so I like having turrets do it for me.

I faced a Bronze 1 Malzahar who just absolutely wrecked me. It was fucking ugly.

I can beat high plat and diamond bot lanes as support but I got owned by a bronze as mid. RIP my ego.

So tell me, who is a good and easy midlaner, just in case I absolutely must go mid in ranked? Presume I will face plat mid mains :(

thanx

I really liked taking Karma in the mid lane. She's a lane bully early on and has decent utility for the late game. She won't carry but she will get you through the early game and possibly set the other laner behind with how hard she bullies. Lux or Morgana also work out well. I like both. Similar reasons to picking Karma where they have decent utility for the late game. Lux has more power though and her laser helps with objective control. Morgana is hardier and can take more hits due to her passive. Lastly is Swain. Swain is a lane bully early on and once he hits his ultimate becomes deceptively tanky and can push a lane rather effectively. Only downside is how mana intensive he is so buying a rod of ages early can usually mitigate this.

Annie, malz are my top two :)

Xerath is my go to mid. That long range allows you to play it safe and as a support you know the perfect time to use that stun.

As supp main I feel you.

Annie was my #1 go to for Supp or Mid all last season which was nice. This season she still flourishes mid but not support.

If my mid match up is something I fear my go to champ is Lux, just max E and range CS while hugging turret lol.

since you main support, Annie Lux Karma Brand Morgana all could work for you, and you could also take them bot (unless you already do XD) other then those: Ahri is pretty safe and mobile. Diana has a simple kit but can be a bit intimidating to play if you aren't used to her Galio is stupid hard to poke due to his w and passive, and nobody takes him seriously until its too late Gragas Nobody takes him seriously either but hes got sustain, cc, and is easy gank for. Malzahar my current go to pick in ranked when the other mid laner hasnt picked yet. People like to go full retard when facing him too.(Stand too close to minions the have his e and about to die, Yasuo's like to try to windwall all his abilities but thats bronze stuff) Even if his ult gets QSS'd you still can do alot with Q and E. MasterYi is one i like to do in normals to screw around. always fun when you get massive XD (i dont recommend this one right away XD) Veigar is the champion that got me into mid lane. i wrecked by one, saw he cost like nothing, and picked him up. if you feel safer just farming up for late game hes a good pick.

But just in general, id go with Annie Lux Ahri or Malzahar. Lux and Annie can be pretty good both bot and mid so id start with them

Midlane is about what you don't see. Meaning, enemy jungler positioning, you're jungler, you're zone and you're enemies zone, etc. Csing is something you need to do, even if you're playing heimer. I strongly suggest you pick up Annie or Lux. They have a decent range on AA and are very mechanically easy.

For a support main go for mages that are also played as supports:

Annie Karma Morgana Zyra as you may be more familiar with their kits from playing as them or against them

Supports who can solo a lane:

Lulu (and... well for mid that's mostly it)

Or utility mages whose kits are a bit supportive and should make you feel more comfortable than full blown assassins or burst mages:

Lux Orianna

Go with what you are good at, if you main poke supports go for pokey mages Lux Ziggs Zyra , if you are good at engaging go for mids who engage nicely, etc.

Akali has high mobility and targeted Q. R dash to enemy minion or champion. w is basically stealth in an area and extra defenses in an area. I think I like akali best for mid lol. Sona has good poke and if you play support, you are probably familiar with her kit. Just build chalice into athenes into lich bane into the AP item that can slow enemies, into rabadons.

For traditional midlaners, Ahri is probably easiest to learn. She has everything. Assassin potential, poke, and mobility.

TwistedFate = Easy to play and very good in any meta, even when you get crapped on you are still relevant.

Annie = Easy to play and very good in any meta, even when you get crapped on you are still relevant.

Malzahar = Easy to play and very good in any meta, even when you get crapped on you are still relevant.

All 3 of these are super easy to learn and to kill creeps with, they are also really good the entire game due to having strong cc.

Lulu and annie are my best recommendations.

Lulu mid can be downright oppressive against an assassin, but it requires a pretty specific team comp. Lulu mid is not picked for her damage, after all, so you're either putting all your chips down on the ADC, or you have another damage source somewhere else on the team to fall back on.

Annie mid is very mechanically simple, and if you already know how to initiate with her as supp, then you already know how to initiate with her mid. The difference is, instead of half-healthing their carry and having the rest of your team clean up, you're going to solo their carry while bringing another dude down to 20% or so. The main thing is learning how to lane with her, which pretty much just comes down to last hitting with Q while staying out of your opponent's harass. In most lanes, you don't fight until at least lv6, and sometimes not even then. You don't have to feel pressured to make plays, but you do need to become familiar with when to roam.

Sona mid is viable if you've played her before. I mained Syndra mid for a while and she's OP if you know how to play her. I suggest starting bots with her, watch some tutorials. The combos can seem weird at some times but she's amazing.

you really should just get at least comfortable with every role. It's a wealth of game knowledge that helps with every role.

Just pick Nasus and copy what I did with him, but go mid. AP tank Nasus is THE safest mid laner you could EVER pick for ANY match-up. I promise.

If you need extra magic resist, just buy item 3065 instead of item 3143

He also makes a fantastic support. Hell, you can take him into any lane role. Even APC. Once you get his core items, he becomes such a pain in the ass.

Brand Lissandra Swain TwistedFate Xerath Any of these are great for starting off. Although some of them need a bit of good judgement on your part. Like, Ulting in the middle of the enemy team as Liss or Gating with TF. Actually, since you're a support main, Karma Lulu are great mid laners too.

OneTrueGzus9/30/2015, 8:50:12 PM1 votes

lol im a supp main too but always found that cho is a good mid lane pick
