Climb through Gold (Seeking Plat+ tips)

I recently hit Gold V. Since then I've had my ups and downs - games I can carry and then games where I feel useless.

I am looking for tips from players who have successfully climbed through Gold (so Plat V or higher). Players who are in the process of climbing through Gold are also welcome to give input for what has worked. My question:

What did you actively notice and change about your overall gameplay that helped you climb through gold?

In other words, How is climbing through Gold different than climbing through Bronze/Silver?

The following is a list of areas I have made an active effort to improve on the climb through bronze and silver. I'm curious if one or more of these are now more important to work on, less important to work on, or if there's something missing from the list completely:

Map Awareness Vision Control CS scores Objective control and priority Priority of Risk vs. Reward plays Expanding viable champion pool Playing top of the meta champions Promoting a positive team environment (NO FLAMING)

Anything I'm missing? How did you continue to improve?

looking at your match history its a lot of supporting, and one of the biggest things I see is the low amount of wards you place. in this game, you only had 11 wards. Over a 27 minute game, you should be aiming for about 30. You aren't placing, or even buying a single pink ward, so it is a big area for you to work on. Aim for about 1 ward a minute as a goal to start, 20minute games you can have less.

One of the bigger things that helped me play better was improving and really making sure I could fix all the latency I had in game. Getting a mouse that you can adjust dpi levels on and a computer that didn't lag every team fight was huge(went straight to plat because of it.)

Plat players in general have good map awareness, but I notice that they don't actually ward well (although they do make good use of the ones that other people place.) Plats generally understand lane match ups and what to do in each situation they are playing in. Having a big champ pool isn't a big thing, but being able to play in more than 1 lane helps(although as a support main it generally isn't necessary.) Plats are good at taking tier 1 turrets and dragons, that's about all they are good at for objective control, as unlike diamonds they don't rotate and obtain things like baron very well.

Sona isn't exactly in meta, but can still be used to get to plat.

I've climbed from Silver 4 to Gold 2 so far. In Silver, I was playing a lot of bullies in the ADC/Support position like Cait and Zyra. My tactic was to scare and bully people and basically win by brute force. Get bot turret fast, roam mid, get lots of kills, etc.

When I hit Gold, I played a lot more support. I also worked more on my CSing when playing other roles. There's a lot of smurfs in Gold, and I find that I can't always bully them as hard as before, so keeping up in CS is way more important. Objectives became a lot more popular, and I am almost always the one to call for dragon (with a pink!) and keep good ward coverage up. My team also wards more (in general), and brings pinks. Rotating properly is also important, but not always done correctly.

I've never cared to play "meta" champions. I mostly play Caitlyn and Morgana; they aren't the most popular picks.
