Nidalee Traps?

So, I am by no means an expert, and that is why I am here asking others to enlighten me about Nidalee's traps. I love her gameplay, but her traps feel sort of useless. Their damage seems to be minimal, they are easy to spot and avoid, do not apply any kind of CC*, and their vision is okay I guess(not sure how it compares to other traps and their vision however). Is there something I am missing about her traps or am I not the only one who feels they are a bit impotent?

*Although they apply the "hunted" debuff which let's you run faster towards them and use your pounce to reach them, but normally you will not be able to place the trap behind them while in human form combat it seems to me.

Ever step on a Teemo mushroom and curse because it's annoying?

Well, try stepping on a nid trap in her jungle and having her team descend upon you. Also, a lot of them put them down in lane near your minions, so it's harder to see them as you attempt to CS.

They're not exactly wards, as they require someone to step on them, but I've seen a well placed trap warn of danger and give the other team vision over you.

Smart nidalee's will fill their jungle ( And their opponents' ) With these traps to maximize their use. Plus, it's super annoying to attempt to run home and walk over one of those traps when she's chasing you. That escape you were trying to make? Well, that just got 10* harder.

Nid isn't really a duel champ, so I think maybe you're considering her playstyle wrong. Shes made to burst a hunted down, then escape. Nid is an ap (or AD) assassin at this point, with her new kit.

Hope this helps!

Realistically, they aren't sued for damage in a combo of any kind, they are either for vision in a bush if someone steps on them, or for some zoning as well as follow up if they happen to step on one while running away from you. Really I don't feel like they are very good except for giving you awareness in a bush. Which is typically the job of wards, so I'm neither here nor there.

that's because her traps ARE useless. its seroiuly gotten to the point where if i trap a bush to try to provide vision for ganks my lane opponent PURPOSELY goes in the bush and steps on it to deny the vision.

They apply spell effects item 3116 item 3151 item 3285 . That is their only use outside of applying her passive and getting vision of enemies. That and for clearing camps with Pounce if you play her in the jungle.

Good use of Nidalee's traps just take a different mind set. Most champion abilities involve instant feedback of use. Nid's traps aren't meant to be used like that as a player would just get frustrated. They are meant to be used strategically not tactically. You don't get a big payoff using a trap in the middle of the fight, you get the big payoff using Nid's traps before the fight or the gank.

Think of them more like booby traps... you don't set them with the victim watching / right in front of you. You set them in anticipation.

Think champs are coming from a certain avenue of approach? ...put a trap there. Given their 2 minute duration they are great to set out in a dispersed cluster in your general area where nid will be for the next couple minutes of play. If you were in your position in the jungle or lane, where would you attack you from? Put a trap there :)

Another good thing is to spread them out due to the way the damage over time effect works. Damage occurs over 4 seconds so space them out in bushes or near walls corners / endcaps that enemy champs may try to squeeze next to in order to stay out of vision. Most enemies will miss traps in the grass :)

If you can sneak a couple traps in the enemies jungle bushes, often time the enemy jungler will miss them... depending on their current status, a trap can really give the enemy jungler a bad day. It messes with their head... Is Nid near by? Am I about to die to this monster now and have to back off so now my whole jungle rhythm is behind? SPEAR???

Most players won't recommend it but I find getting a Rylai's with Nid to be great. It's psychological. Most players are used to Nidalee traps being essentially worthless, but all of a sudden when they are slowed, the traps become important. In addition It's that little bit more of an edge to land a spear or catch up to them or get away from them.

I agree about the cooldown on them, wish that was lower. I'd like it if Riot increased the cooldown of the Spear (say 10/ 9/ 8/ 7/ 6) and decreased that of the trap (11/10/9/8/7). Machine gunning spears is what the unskilled do (also burns through mana). The idea behind the increase in Spear CDR would make players really make a choice about whether to throw the spear . I think that with a higher cdr plus the current smaller hit box plus the return of the older AP ratio would achieve the good balance that Riot is looking for.

Back to traps: Another underrated thing about traps is that they are cheap. So you'll burn through less mana using them, SO USE THEM :)
