Advice on Gameplay?

So I had a messed up game, and decided instead of brooding on it I would ask advice. The game felt pretty brutal with their team comp, I would get deleted within 2 seconds as soon as I was touched, I would get CS stolen often, and not to mention I had a terrible time getting an assist for ANYTHING I actually was able to do.

But I admit: I don't play veiger often and only recall 2 or 3 games where I actually did well. So I was hoping to ask for advice as I know I don't know how to play veiger well. I tried to upgrade my AP with items to help deleting Lux with my ult, which is why I was going for a third Needlessly Large Rod item. I also know I should have upgraded my boots sooner. For the most part after getting deleted within 2 seconds of a team fight I tried to play overly safe as well.
