Exhaust vs Ignite

As and ADC main. I often like to dabble in the support role here and there and I always have this debate in my head on if ignite or exhaust is a better summoner spell. I do play Team builder often so picks are blind and idk what adc I will be fighting. Also I feel it depends on the support. When I look at the pros playing, they never seem to take exh and I am a little curious on why that is. My supports I like to play along with their summs are Sona summoner 3 but I have thought of taking summoner 14 because I am a very aggressive Sona player Leona summoner 3 but she is kinda all in so I feel summoner 14 might be better but idk Janna summoner 3 yet have seen pros taking summoner 14 Support Mains, help me in my choice

Not a support main, but my personal preference is exhaust on supports. You're primary objective as a support is to keep your adc alive first, and provide combat support for them second.

I'm a support main. I play mostly Janna and Sona with a tad of Nami.

I always pack Ignite on Sona - I believe it fits her aggressive playstyle a lot more than Exhaust. To win a game Sona needs to win her lane, and to win her lane she needs her edge and she needs it NOW.

Leona, well I don't play her much but she's already loaded like CC, Ignite seems like it would fit her nicely. The Leona that I've seen do the best packed Ignite.

As Janna, it depends.

Janna with summoner 3

  • When my team lacks sticking power
  • When my ADC needs all the peel in the world (Ashe KogMaw MissFortune for instance)
  • When my ADC needs everything to keep people in his range (Draven !!!!)
  • When the enemy ADC is immobile (Ashe KogMaw etc)
  • When the enemy has one or several high burst champion that can blow up my ADC and gets shut down by Exhaust nicely (Zed Akali Katarina Jax etc.)
  • Overall, when I'm feeling more defensive

Janna with summoner 14

  • When the enemy has a lane that is quite mobile and Ignite is more likely to secure kills for us than Exhaust as they're gonna blink/dash away anyway (Ezreal Lucian for instance)
  • When the enemy has a sustain lane, (especially fucking Soraka ) or champions who otherwise rely on sustain in their comp (DrMundo Swain Warwick Fiddlesticks for instance)
  • When I'm laning with a bully and I want to increase our chances to win the lane (Caitlyn Corki Lucian for instance)
  • When the enemy team is slippery as heck (Nidalee Leblanc etc)
  • When the enemy picked fucking TahmKench (the Ignite still ticks when his ally is in his belly)
  • Overall when I'm feeling more aggressive, a lot of people don't expect the added burst from Ignite especially from Janna and you can surprise-sex many kills like that with your ADC

i mean all ignite does to the enemy is reduce heals (and deal some damage). drop it in the beginning of a teamfight and their heal (or healing ability) is useless. defintely pick it against supports/teams that have a lot of healing, i.e. gangplank, mundo, raka, etc. exhaust is always a safe pick for supports if you're uncertain, even against teams with healing, however if you execute it correctly ignite will give you the edge. if you mainly play blindpick, however, then you're going to have to base it on your own team composition. Ignite takes some communication, i.e. we're starting a teamfight, ignite the enemy healer/adc, not to mention its draft pick in the competitive setting. if (for whatever reason) two other people on your team decides to take ignite, dont take it. if there's 0 ignite on your team, you should probably take it, if you can sufficent slows. keep in mind exhaust not only slows, but greatly decreases their damage output. If your team composition is mainly squishy, you may want to take exhaust to reduce a possible enemy burst champion from killing your allies, however if your team has a lot of slows anyways (nasus) go with ignite. just use your best judgement, neither will fuck you over in the long run.

^ Ignite doesn't just do a bit of dmg and reduce healing. It also reveals enemies for the duration which does have its uses especially in jungle fights.

Exhaust is better in most cases, but ignite is probably better if you are facing a sustain lane.

exhaust against assassins and adcs that would likely be able to kill your carries faster than you can kill thiers so everygame there is a 1 combo burst mage, assassin, or vayne
