The Climb: How to Win Trades In Lane

Want to dominate your lane? We’ve got a video from Phroxzon (OCE) teaching us all about the “trading stance,” a method that makes it easier to win trades and secure kills. He used this concept, and others covered in his popular Leaguecraft 101 YouTube series, to climb to Diamond in S4 (currently Plat in S5)-- so take notes!

What tactics do you use to get a leg up on your lane opponent? Let us know in the comments below, and please recommend your favorite community guides or videos!

About the Educator

Phroxzon (OCE) is a student at the University of New South Wales and member of the school’s LoL Society. Wanting to help his fellow students get better at League, he held LoL strategy talks in campus lecture halls and uploaded these lectures to YouTube. Thus the Leaguecraft 101 video series was born. The series has grown to over 15 videos, covering topics ranging from basic laning mechanics to 80+ minute deep dives into specific Champion strategy.

tl;dr: Be just in range to hit the enemy Champion when they go to kill a minion and then run away before taking too much aggro.

Thank you RIOT for highlighting this youtube series. I randomly stumbled across a link to it on the boards a while back and it taught me so much. As a former bronze player listening to his lectures both reminded me of things I didn't think about often and taught me a lot about how to approach each game and situation.** I think this series was a large part of why I'm not in bronze anymore**. Although it's useful for people in all elo, even if it's just to highlight things you don't generally think about (there's comments from people in diamond who found it illuminating)

I definitely recommend taking the time to listen to all (or most, his "the silver league" video is especially good info on how to carry) of this guy's videos. Think of it like a podcast and listen to it while doing yardwork/dishes/-insert mindless task- .

I think this was perfect for newer League players, plus it's a nice little reminder to the rest of us

Isn't this basically punishing enemies for farming?

Glad that Phroxzon finally got recognition from Riot. Excellent lecture series. If you've played the game long enough with the intention of learning how to improve, a lot of the lectures might seem like review, but they definitely help you remember to do the things that you might only do every so often. Reinforcing good habits and actively recognizing when things are going badly / well really helps improve performance, and I'm glad Riot finally recognized the work of Phroxzon and UNSW's League club.

Really wish Riot would make a comprehensive tutorial like this for new players and the ones stuck in bronze so they would actually know the principles of the game rahter than thinking they are "enforcing" a meta. It's so frustrating for a game to be out for like 6 years and most of the people that play this game have zero concept of stratagy or teamwork.

The guy is only in Plat? No thanks. Don't need his "advice."

I'm disappointed, the video doesn't mention either attacking minions to drop aggro or the fact that pure spells don't draw aggro in the first place :/
