Best time to use Nami as a support

I've only played Nami in ARAM games but I like her a lot and I've been thinking of buying her. I don't usually see her as a support in normals, so I'm not too sure how she is in game yet. What are good bot lane matchups to use Nami in?

EDIT: I also like to buy Rod of Ages on mages, is this a good item on Nami? (As a third or fourth item)

Nami is supposed to counter the following: Draven Thresh Leona Varus (Varus is kind of a stretch though) Nami is good with the following ADCs: Vayne Varus MissFortune Tristana Lucian KogMaw Nami has low synergy with the following ADCs: Ashe Ezreal Nami is countered by the following chamions: Ezreal Kalista Corki Tristana Morgana Blitzcrank Karma

Nami is a Poke/sustain style support. Typically the people she counters the best are Kill/poke laners. The ones she struggles the hardest against are Sustain/kill laners and anything that is highly mobile.

And as it stands right now Nami is probably the most well balanced support champion in the current meta.

She's fairly strong period. Just practice landing bubbles. My two pieces of advice are

  1. She's more dangerous when her bubbles up than launched. Meaning so long as you haven't thrown it, she's seen as a threat.

  2. Learn to lead them.

She is essentially a better version of Sona. She performs identically to her in the same matchups.

I'm not capable of telling you good/bad match ups. But mechanically, I like her a lot. She can peel, harass, sustain, disengage, and has a movement speed and damage steroid. In general, though, enemies with a dash ability are tough to land bubbles on. The thing about Nami's bubble is that it takes the same amount of time to land wether you place it right next to yourself, or at maximum range. This makes it very easy for anyone with a dash to just avoid it. Her bubble works best on predictable champions. Take draven for example. If he's chasing his axes, you know exactly where he's going to go and can plan accordingly. This forces him to drop his axe, or get hit by a bubble. The positive of dodging far outweigh the consequences of him getting bubbled, so I find that hard to call a favourable matchup for Nami just because he's predictable. Enemies that root themself in place for abilities (like a long range blitz grab) are easier to hit. Overall team comps? She can set up yasuo ults, she can follow up a malphite ult with a bubble and disable them even longer, and send her ult at them afterward for a triple threat. So those are also things to consider if you're looking past the laning phase.

It's fun to play her against Draven because you can see where he is going to catch his axes so you just bubble where his circle thing is.
