remember when you get last pick and you're, "damn, they took all the cool roles...i guess i'm support". You don't have to worry about that no more. if you get stuck on last pick, and you have to support, check this out.
- pick any champ, even your main champ like Ryze or Riven, doesn't really matter.
- Next, when the game starts buy either Ancient Coin, Relic shield, etc. Any support item.
- BOOM! you are now a support champ.
Disclaimer: I'm just being sarcastic. This is not meant to be taking literally, but i know they are some gullible people out there who are going to take this serious and start trolling my thread. But seriously people, stop doing this. a support champ consists of heals, peel, shields, and heavy CC.
A support contains either one or more of heals, shields, or disengage skills. They also may or may not contain hard CC. An example is Lulu. Her polymorph is in a league of its own, as its a soft CC with the effects of hard CC (aka makes the enemy champ pretty much sit there and wait out the duration). Current Soraka falls into this too, as her stun only works if the enemy champ is in her silence for its duration.
As for heals/shields/disengage and CC, champs with a "trinity" of each are usually some of the best supports, even if last pick/forced to do it. Janna is pretty much the only one that packs a heal, disengage, and a shield into her kit. Lulu sort of fits, though her ult only gives additional health, not restore it.
But as for your "pick any champ ....." line, it's actually a legitimate thing. I went Veigar support a couple hours ago (though it was blinds, RNGesus-sama gave me a perfect enemy team) and their team was pretty much 90% AP (only ad was their jungle Yi). I built Spellthief, ward, and Red Potion. Then I just poked with Q and W (I started Q then E then W, maxing Q and W over E). After finishing Frost Queen and Sightstone w/Oracle Trinket, I went straight AP with Meiji's Soulstealer and Void Staff.
Basically, you just peel in lane, using skills to land CCs (even if its just a slight slow) and get kills for you and your ADC (I mean, if you do 95% of the enemy Le Blanc's HP with just your ult (I had like 180 AP from 2 stacks and void staff) you can't be blamed for R+Q combos that instant kill.
But here's what I would point out: If you're last pick and forced to support and you choose to use a non-support champ, go with these:
If you're heavy poke: go with Ancient Coin (for the mana regen, unless you're manaless)
Are a ranged/melee AD champ: Targon's Brace
Safe pick: Spellthief Edge.
You don't need to build the full items, and even if you have no AP scaling, getting the frost queen for gold on hit/over time is great. Some exceptions work, like support Gnar. You can get either of them (since the full Ancient Coin can be used to chase in Mega Gnar and stacks with the Ghost Blade active).
I've also been known among my friends to make support kassadin work (both before and after his changes, who by the way works really great against Ezreal ADCs because of his passive and that Ez's skills have magic damage and usually a Trinity Force or Frozen Fist is built on them).
