How to handle Garen

So I've recently went top against a Garen as Gangplank, I lost that match, I got pushed out of lane so hard. How do I deal with Garen (who has a good early, mid and late game) if he manages to get picked by the enemy team?

Kite him, play ranged champions like Teemo Kennen Gnar and poke him down from afar. With Teemo and Kennen, never let him get in close, you poke, back up, repeat, using your speed up skill if need be to continue doing so, with gnar, you have a built in flash.

Unless you're good with your barrels GP will usually lose to Garen. Garen can just zone you and take little to no damage from your weak early game offense. If you are good with your barrels, however, you can push him out of lane instead.

Now while I am a Garen main I don't have a very large pool of champions that I use against him. To be perfectly honest every game I face Garen I just pick Nasus and convert him into stacks.

Rumble, Vlad, Cho'Gath, Gnar, Jayce, Lee Sin, Malphite, and Lissandra can all do exceedingly well against him if you know how to play them. Just keep in mind counters don't make up for a lack of experience.

Just watched Gangplank destroy Garen in lane. Keg in the bush->Keg under Garen, shoot the bush Keg, hit Garen for massive damage. Rinse and repeat until he gets out of lane. Alternately, use kegs to clear waves and prevent him from shoving you under tower.

Garen's strong, but as long as you can keep your distance from him, there's little he can do to you. If you have snares/slows/stuns, you can also deal with Garen well since he's so reliant on running at you that the moment you cancel that, he's a sitting duck.

Wish I could show you a replay, but :V
