Whenever I buy morellonomicon instead of athenes, I always feel like I wasted money, and my mana regen doesnt get any better. Is the item worth anything?

It's extremely cost efficient in terms of AP and CDR, however if you need more mana than it provides, then I'd go Athenes.

The passive makes a large chunk of the difference, lower healing, it works against tons of champions: Soraka Fiddlesticks Cassiopeia Fiora Nami Olaf Swain Trundle Volibear Vladimir Or any ADC with item 3072 OR ANY CHAMP THAT CAN HEAL

If you can can get them to about half health it does not matter about health regen because you have grievous wounds, one of the only ways to get it besides ignite.

Pretty much this.

Morello's also nets more damage and helps with healing reduction. Pretty much the better choice for an offensive item. If I were looking for burst big trades, or was simply winning lane I'd go with this.

Athene's gives better mana regen and MR for tough mage lanes. Better suited as a safe, defensive item. I'd pick up think if I were playing someone like Orianna into a an AP, where my goal is to mitigate damage taken while whittling them down.
