Garen Vs... (mid matchups)

Garen vs Kat is a skill matchup. Typically Garen has the advantage due to having the element of surprise. If the enemy team is low on AD Garen can quickly become impossible for Kat to deal with.

Garen vs Leblanc is also a skill matchup, however Leblanc has the advantage, and even if Garen ends up steamrolling he is unlikely to shut her down. Her roaming potential and ability to play safe against a melee opponent is just too strong for him to make her useless.

Garen vs Xerath is almost always going to go in Xerath's favor. A well played Garen can survive lane and do well once the larger fights start, but early game is going to be completely controlled by Xerath.

This is, of course, excluding the possible jungle pressure from either side. Typically Garen can at least survive any lane without jungle help, but it is very dependent on each player's skill and what happens elsewhere in the match.

I got smashed as Kat vs a Garen mid in a ranked game a while back. I couldn't do anything to him and his silence was devastating.

I would do my QEW combo to harass and he would respond by silencing me and spinning. Then he'd back off for a few seconds and be at full health with me down to half.

However, I think LeBlanc and Xerath would do fine against him since they are range. Kat's problem is she's melee.

Garen mid is just life killing tbh i got rekt by him with fizz his silence is just 2 gud against skill reliant champions

Garen vs Kat: Garen would just backdoor all da— I mean, um, excuse me for a moment... Ok, Garen is a lane bully, Kat is generally not very good in lane. If you as the Garen can avoid being poked too often (or if poked, wait long enough out of combat with her to start regenerating) you should be able to beat her. If the enemy team has a low amount of AD damage (like a Corki ADC and AP/tank top/jungle/support) you can build a Spirit visage and a Maw of Malmortius and ignore the majority of her damage because of W. If she lets, you can silence her easily. if she tries to fight you, you can easily just Q>E>(w if needed)>R and kill her if you have any significant amount of AD. This is probably the best matchup for you of all three since you can bully her pretty well. Edge: Garen

Garen vs Leblanc: I'd say this one comes down to being able to not get poked much during lane phase, because once she hits 6 she can burst you unless you already have a hex drinker and some other MR. If she goes in on you, immediately pop W and then try to silence her (if she is using her dash for damage this might be surprisingly simple to pull off) and then start spinning to winning before trying to execute her if she's low, or instead just back off and allow your passive to regen you up. this one comes down to reaction time and proper itemization, you'll definitely want Banshee's veil and Maw and might want to go for a more AD heavy bruiser build rather than a really AD heavy build. Garen vs Xerath: I don't have any experience with this, but I'd guess a few things would happen here. Xerath is extremely long ranged and excels at poking, which is basically the best way to shut down Garen in lane. On the flip side, he is very squishy and essentially helpless if he can't cast abilities, so if you do ever get close enough to go melee on him, he is at a steep disadvantage. It really comes down to your ability to dodge skill shots and his ability to not let you get close enough to be a direct threat to him. Edge: Xerath

Now, that's all just opinion, it may be that Garen vs Kat is drastically different and that Garen actually Craps on Xerath, so I'd say the best way to know is try it out. Just remember, Maw vs all of them to protect against all in, Banshee's vs Leblanc, SV/Banshees vs the other 2, and be willing to go more bruiser-like if necessary.

Kat beats Garen. Even if Garen wins in lane, Kat still wins.

Why would garen even go mid? he lacks a gap closer, and can be easily poked down. he also lacks CC for a proper gank unless the jungler is an elise or something. But to answer your question:

Katarina: She can't farm in melee range, but she will always use Q to farm and keep ur passive down. Garen will win this lane, however in the long run due to Katarina having a better teamfight she will make it back. She also has better roaming methods then garen, so she can pick off bot lane and still fight you head on.

LB: She can harass you with ease, if you go in on her, she might as well snare you and burst you down early on. Unless the LB is horrid you will lose this lane.

Xerath: Need I mention this? you can't touch him, he pokes you down, it's utter nightmare for garen.
